Ok I am not a huge star wars geek, I don't waste huge amounts of my cash on collectables, and I don’t camp out to be the first one to the movies. But it was still a pretty big part of my childhood; I look back fondly on the original trilogy.
Now my child hood memories have become new additions to skywalker ranch. Let me tell you what I mean.
I have seen star wars whoring in the following.
Darth Vader in burger king commercials
C-3PO on a cheezit box
Yoda on my star wars cereal box (mom bought it lol)
Han Solo on my mini wheats box
R2-D2 on my cookie bag
I even saw something on some spaghetti o's but I forgot what lol
A darth Vader voice thing, that only says 2 FUCKING THINGS!
And I know this is just a fraction of the senseless whoring of star wars, so what else have you guys seen? |

some whoring is ok....in fact it is expected isn't it? I mean come on shouldn't George cash in a little bit. Ok some maybe it has gotten a little out of control. Like a run a way bull in said China shop George is addicted to money. So maybe he sold out his life’s work faster than the X-Box catches on fire. So maybe Obi-one is rolling around in the grave his cloak is buried in. So maybe George hasn’t exactly been listening to Yoda. At least there is no Darth Vader inhaler......oh dang did I just give him an idea?
Hoping George is not reading this,

Well it's his product I guess. If he wants to sell out and hceapen it, then oh well I say. I figure there are but two possibilities here;
1. He whores it out til eventually it cheapens and dies
2. He makes even more wads of money and honestly I say good for him
End of line

Yeah, I have to say that I feel the same way about this that I do with people constantly calling popular bands sellouts. Like Excel said, it IS his product, and he can do with it whatever he wants. And in actuality, I'm glad that there is so much Star Wars merchandise out there, because most of it is pretty damn cool. I mean, just like those bands, what do you expect them to do? They work their asses off to create something, so shouldn't they be able to make some money off of it? I think it's selfish for people to expect them to basically give us everything for free.
Not that I'm being harsh on you reaper, or anyone else...just my opinion... |

I'm not going to lie. I love PO. I love it with all my heart. If someone came along and offered me the kind of saturation you see on Star Wars stuff. HELL YEAH! Instead of Skywalker Ranch, I'd buy our own little Miniopia. However, I would definitely stay on to make sure the integrity of PO isn't lost. As much as it's a devoted project of mine it's definitely one I wouldn't mind being pumped with the money to make it the ONLY thing I have to work on.
I don't fault Lucas. It's just as much a part of the products his work is being slapped on. If anything THEY are the ones riding on the wave of Star Wars by putting it on their products to aweeten the pot of consumers. |

I gotta agree with the Dooters on this one.
I think it is being a over done. I mean I saw the burger king one today and it was just retarded. But hey... it's their business, let them do with it what they will. The companies that are paying for them obviously want the characters in it enough to do something with it.
However I think it's pretty crazy that competitors are going after the same stuff. For instance, both BK and McDs are using Star Wars in their ads right now. |

My only concern is that Darth Vader never used force lightning. GL (My god I have the same Initials!) is probably catering too much to some people and not maintaining the integrety of his story line. Goes back to the old ships looking better than the new ships.
As far as the advertizing and merchandising, It's alright. There's a Pepsi commercial I really like. But, I'm just worried about the hype, and then the movie turning out to be a let down. |

I don't think this movie is going to be a let down. Like has been discussed, a lot of people are probably going to complain that it's not as good as the original, but whining will ultimately cloud the fact that this movie is almost certainly going to be the redeeming factor in this new trilogy.
AND...Vader uses lightning in the Star Wars fighting game that was released on old school Playstation years back. And not only did he use it, he kicked your ass like no other with it. Although, I'm not sure that adequately argues the point that he uses lightning.
And as far as Star Wars merchandise goes, the greatest Star Wars product out there right now are the special edition Star Wars dark chocolat M&Ms. Oh my God...they are like....SO GOOOOOD!! |
