I still have to get teh command options going. It's an option in your user profile. But when I put in the code for it, it killed the page. So I'm still working on that.

Shuri, What ports did you say this room will run off of. I want to try to find one that is not commonly blocked by employers. The Current port (6667) is blocked by my network and Doot's too.

For best results, I highly suggest members use a dedicated chatting program. Here are the two most popular:

mIRC
X-Chat (also works on Linux)

Both programs are faster and more powerful than the Java client on the PO website. They also get to know some crucial information about a chatting network before connecting, such as which ports and which servers the network uses. This can significantly increase your success rate in connecting. Smile

HOW TO GET REGISTERED ON THE IRC NETWORK

This post mostly applies to mods of the PO board. Registering your nickname allows for two advantages:

1) Getting your moderator powers in the chatroom, automatically.
2) Making it so that you, and only you can use the name you have chosen.

To register, you must message NickServ, the house robot, with the following line. Fill in the fields! Razz

/msg nickserv register password email

You will get an E-Mail explaining how to complete the registration process. Afterwards, whenever you connect to the network under your registered name, you can log in this way:

/msg nickserv identify password

Has someone taken your nickname? Reclaim it with the following command:

/msg nickserv recover nickname password

Wait one minute, then go ahead and change to your usual name.

Finally, if you wish to change your password (hi Doot!), use the following command:

/msg nickserv set password new-password

You can also use SET EMAIL in the same manner.

For more information about the more advanced things you can do with the network robots just check out http://www.foreverchat.net What mostly applies to you is NickServ, while what mostly applies to me and the other mods is ChanServ.

These commands can be set to kick off when the chat is first loaded up, but I'm still trying to get that part to work. As soon as I do, I will let you guys know.

There are two ways to do it.

First way is through a script in your chat client. For example, I set my client, as soon as it's connected to the network, to join the PO channel and send in my password for identification.

For the Java one, you could put an initial login page, which would contain a field titled "identification password". Inside the code, the chat would be sending the command:

/msg nickserv identify [password]

where [password] is a variable controlled by the "identification password" field.
