I was wondering if it existed. There are a lot of good computer games I own, that are not playable on XP, or playable with LOTS of bugs. |

You are better off with a partition than an emulator. They can't even get some of the later generation of MS-DOS games working that well (IE Crusader series), so how can they get Win 98 working well?
I am sure if you really wanted to...you could find a cracked version online. Then again, it is really hard to find older versions of software online. |

You could use Virtual PC, but you would need both the VPC software and a Win98 disk image. If you know where to get such things for "free", it's probably worth the trouble. If not, make a FAT partition on your hard drive and buy a cheap copy of Win98 used. |

Do you want Win98 games or do you want DOS games - because Dosbox and its various frontends are excellent emulators for DOS games. Win98 games on the other hand, are probably best done with a junk computer that will hold a Win98 disk image. I just wish that the whole "compatibility mode" thing promised in XP actually worked. |

Microsoft invented System Restore. Why did you trust them about that compatibility mode thing? |

I didn't, not really, but you know, I was hoping that might be the one feature in the OS that actually worked like it was supposed to without bugs. Guess I should have realized it would be the authentication. |

Hmmm, I wonder if you can run DosBox and install Windows 98 into it?!
The mind boggles! @_@ |

I may just be smoking something but if i remember correctly there is a little switch box kinda like the one you use for using multible printers that allows you to switch os's on the fly. I can't remember if you need them on seperate HD's or Partitions or what not.
Ill need to google and come up with some more info.
But the alternatives are. Make a 98 Partition on your main HD. This is what 'sectoid and I do on our main boxes. Just cause its a good idea.
Or you buy a KVM switch and setup a DosBox or 98 Compy next to your current one. Should cost to much if you dont already have the parts available. Then if you didn't want to use the kvm switch you can hook up another moniter and do this synergy thing Doot has rigged up and use both compys at the same time with the same keyboard and mouse.
Tons of options. |

I have no money. And I'm using Fallout (1+2), Battlezone, Heavy Gear, Magic the Gathering, along with a few others, including Star Trek Borg. |

Actually, DOS doesn't even want to know Windows 9x exists! >_< We had that problem in hardware class. If we wanted to boot from DOS, we had to hide the Windows partition completely, and vice-versa to run Windows. Really a pain in the neck.
You know, I wish someone could make a "new" DOS. Same command line and everything, but one that can read NTFS, big partitions and all that new stuff, and isn't an emulator but a full-fledged operating system. |
