but I'm not always sure. Last week I was playing football with the guys and I kicked someone else's foot. Now anyone that has kicked someone knows that there is a high chance of you pulling a nail off. Well, mine should have come off but it didn't. So I walked around for a week waiting for it to just fall off as it normally would have. It didn't. Luckily my wife works at a hospital and got me some neat toys as I told her I was just gonna pull it off myself. 30 mins and a little pain later, I'm nail free. Let me walk you through it.

In this one you see the tools used to do it, forcips and scissors, man those scissors helped a bunch. Little sterile swab and gauze and a bucket incase it bled too bad. You can see little chuncks, that's what I cut off to get the forcips all the way back into the toe so I could get enough grip.

Here's the nail. I had to kind of wedge it off. Started on the left side and just kinda pryed and pryed till the cuticle gave way. Then it stopped. I couldn't get it too release. Pulled harder, moved a little but still no release.

Now you can't really see it from this pick but on the right side you see a kind of ring of blood. Near the numbers is a portion of the nail that was embedded in the toe. That was the part I couldn't get to just release. Took a lot of pulling and gritting of teeth but I finally got it.

All said and done you have a nail roughly the size of a thumb width wise and since I cut it down first about as long as a pinky's first length. All and all not bad, no doctor, no pain killer except some vodka afterwards. The soaking it in salt water and cleaning it with Iodine swabs hurt more. The little part I had to dig out of the toe left a hole for the Iodine to get in. That stung a little.

I was just wondering if anyone else had done this kind of at home surgery. I know it's not really a big deal, but I'm kinda proud of myself for being able to do this with no help. Anybody else got any disgusting pics or injuries?

Ahahaa...no. I scream at the thought of putting myself in pain. I had my ingrown toenail removed professionally (twice, the first time the person doing it was an idiot so it grew back/never properly left) and I had plenty of painkiller involved, though to be honest, the needles they used to insert the numbing agent hurt like -fuck- and I was told often sends football players up the wall while all I had was a soft 'ow'. Then again, everybody knows football players are really pansys anyhow. ^_- (don'thurtmeshino,i'mkidding.)

I have home surgery pretty much once a month, if I'm lucky. xD

Last summer, I plaid goaly at work for the soccer team ... barefoot. I got spiked ... could have been worst. Then the same week, I got into a moshpit ... in sandals ... I don't see how it could have been worst lol. Had 2 nails that needed to be taken off like yours, and the others were in a crapy state. only 4 of my 10 tow nails (or toes) were intact haha. As I was walking out of the place, a lil tipsy, I thought to myself ''darn ... I spilled beer all over ma feet ... wait *takes a closer look at feet* aw crap it's not beer ... eew ... all bloody ... dammit.'' I wouldn't say I'm badass, but I'd say I'm a lil careless every now and then. I won't go out and get my arm chopped off tho, but for lil scratches? I don't mind, I'm quite aware of the human body's ability to heal itself, and I'm comfident it'll do the job most of the time.

Good times. Anyway, I like home surgery, I unfortunatly don't have as much tools as you do. Most of the time, all I have is a pocket knife, a needle, small plyers and fire ... o and alcohol. But so far, it did the job.

BWS-1 is careless in the sense that he could walk over an anti personel mine, get blown up sky high, land on his waist stump, attempt to walk as if nothing had happened, realize he's not moving, look down and only then notice that somehow, his legs are gone. Very Happy

Ya, I've had to use needle nose plyers and alcohol before. My advise is if you do any type of home surgery often, you need to invest in a sharp old fashion single blade razor and a sharpening strap. It's what I use to do most of my cutting. Plus any type of cloth cutting or rope cutting, that razor will slice right through it. They are relatively cheap and well worth the buy. $35 for the blade and about 15 for the strap. Just don't try to shave with it unless you have a lot of time and hot lather and hot towels. Takes about an hour, but the shave is so smooth...

i got a pencil stuck in my foot once. Ming helped in getting the tip out of it. I've still got a bit of a grey mark where the tip broke off and had to be pulled out of.

A friend of mine at work got a fork through his hand when washing dishes.

The only other thing i've got going for me are the copious burns all over my arms and hands.
