PS3 drops to $300

So the question is: How many of my fellow POers will get one so we can play some games? I won't be getting a 360 til early 2010 but when I do I'll be looking for some of you.

What's really odd is that 360 pro is gone and the elite is now $300. But that's not what was odd.

They are apparently TAKING OUT all of the HD cables and only including the composite cables.

Why?

Anyway... good news.

The 360 Elite became the "360 Pro With Black Paint And A Bigger Hard Drive". HDMI cable? Gone!

Without PS2 compatibility, the PS3 does not interest me. Unfortunately, seems I'm in the minority, as Sony declared that a study revealed most people bought a PS3 for the PS3 games.

I must be in the inconsequential part of that study cause I have two PS3's and both are the BC 60gig model. And both cost me less than $300 each.
Also Shuri, here's a tip if you want a 60gig model: Buy a broken one off of EBay (should run you less than $200). Send it in to Sony to be fixed (they'll charge you $150+tax since it's not under original warrenty) and they'll send you a NEW 60gig model. Trust me, I've sent both of mine in (the baby broke one and the other I stupidly packed in my bag where the airline personel proceded to dropkick it to Hell) and both times I got new, not-a-scratch-on-the-case-anywhere, new serial number PS3. You'll get a new 60 gig model with a 90 day warrenty (cheap ass Sony) for under $400. Getting a non-working model is to keep the price cheap and also, MAKE SURE NOT TO SAVE ANYTHING TO THE HD cause the new one will have a newly formatted hd sao you'd lose everything. I lost all of my Rockband 1 and 2 saves (sob) but Sony allows you to redownload anything you've bought on the PSN store (I think up to three times) so I was able to get my songs back.
Just an idea if you're serious about the backwards compatibility.

Actually the ResEvil Elite model also has the Jasper chip in it and from surveys and forum posts, lots of XB owners do still want to pay money for (for either new or serviced consoles) to continue playing even after their XBs have gone belly up.

I don't know what Bill Gates out in the Kool Aid but it works.

He puts a really good, functioning online service in the box, it's not free, but it's quality. And the online component is what will make the 360 be the overall victor in this generation.

Gaaz... the Elite does have an HDMI out port... they're just taking out the cable.

The Elite has always had an HDMI out port.

Anyway... PS3 topic people.
There's another topic for the 360 price drop.

This will be a huge improvement for Sony.
They now hold the best value system.
Between the PS3 for $300 and the 360 for $300... the PS3 is the obvious better value.

Since the announcement... the PS3 has been #1 on Amazon's Video game sales chart. Good on Sony for finally doing it and good on them for keeping most of what made the PS3 great in tact.

Gekko... I agree that Sony will never catch MS in North America... but I still think they have a slim chance to come out on top in world wide sales.

I think Sony will catch and pass M$ by Xmas 2011 (maybe even Summer 2011). The real problem with the PS3 from the start was the humungous pricetag. It was always worth the money as an entertainment item...if you were able to take advantage of everything...but not as a game machine. When the PS3 released, who had HD TVs? Who did real media streaming (and tho I do believe you could stream to your XB, streaming isn't all it's cracked up to be)? Who needed an electronic entertainment media hub? Who even wanted Blu Ray? But now that we've progressed more people have and are taking advantage of the features. I didn't even want one when I got mine, I just wanted to make sure I got a 60Gig model before they all disappeared. But now that I am doing a lot of media stuff and I have swapped out all of the TVs for HDTVs I can see the need for such an item. Still, as a game player it's overpriced (I think $200 is the actual value of any game machine right now) but for $300 it's impossible to beat.
M$ brought the 360 in line pricewise but then took out the HD cables and composite cables so you're watching your new games with a resolution no better than the PS2 gave you (TV-wise). WTF? However, this will work because (and this is just my opinion) alot of 360 owners don't know any better than to look at the price. Down here in El Poor-o Texas, the PS2's are still selling. When they dropped the Arcade systen to $199 people lost their minds. I can't tell you how many people I've found down here with 360's with no HDs and no Internet connection. Even for $200 that's a ripoff in this day and age. One guy told me he went to hook his system up online and kept getting update messages so he disconnected it from the cable simply because it bothers him that he can't play a game without all of the updates loading. It's that mentality that sweeps thru 360 owners here. The XB was a cheap entry point to next gen but if you're not online and getting content additions (thru downloads) and have no HD then how much "next" is there in your gen? Without the media functions of the PS3 it's a PS2 with an HD and pretty resolution. The $300 XB360 is just barely an XB 1.5 right now.
