No ... it wasn't... But neither was my comment about hate. Both were mentioned later.
My first post was meant as a joke b/c of your doorstop comment since you felt similarly about the PSP and now you have and enjoy playing one.... b/c you gave it a chance. Whether it was a hand me down or not.
My comment about the price and worth of the PS3 was more to say that if you gave it a chance... you may find yourself enjoying what it has to offer as well since there are a number of great exclusives on the system you and Chris would probably enjoy.
That's all. It was not meant to create such a defensive reaction nor did I expect you to feel the need to defend yourself so. When you mentioned Sony's "Tactics..." that when I went on my rant.
So... to me... it seems like both of us could have said things differently... and been a little less "sensitive" as you put it.
Yes?

I wasn't being sensitive in the first place. I believe this whole thing spawned off your reaction to my harmless comment. Had it been taken at its face value then we wouldn't have all this hot air blustering about. My comment was generalized as your retort was pointed and full of assumption - no matter how much you want to say it was a joke.
MH and Beautiful Katamari are the only games I've used my PSP for (aside from trying out Loco Roco and PataPon which I haven't touched since and don't plan returning to) solely because of "exclusivity" which I feel is a cheap tactic in the entire gaming industry, period.
It boils down to this - I'm a fan of the games, not the console.
This still hasn't changed the way I feel about Sony and their passing of questionable design at the launch of the PSP. Nothing you argue will change that as I accept the fact that my opinion does not change your sense of duty to fight the good fight for descriminated conglomorates.
Your argument that the PS3 now would be a better purchase than our XBox 360 was at the time we got it is silly. I could say the same for anyone who purchased the PS3 at launch at the cool price tag of $599 for 60GB. What's the new slim size? 120GB? What's the price tag? If I bought a PS3 now, let's just say I utilized the launch/current cost difference my patience awarded me by purchasing my Xbox 360 to bide my time. |

True... but it was meant to be a joke more than a retort. Sorry if it didn't seem that way.

As am I.
Doot wrote: | This still hasn't changed the way I feel about Sony and their passing of questionable design at the launch of the PSP. Nothing you argue will change that as I accept the fact that my opinion does not change your sense of duty to fight the good fight for descriminated conglomorates. |
That's all I was looking for. A reason.
This is why I posted my second post.
So... first... for the record... my point has nothing to do with a "sense of duty to fight the good fight..." but moreso to understand the logic behind WHY you feel the way you do...
Whether it changes your mind or not... From the way it sounds... Sony has bad tactics for Questionable design of the PSP. The square button issue when it was first released, yes? I remember when it came out and you commented on this problem when we were working on PO one night. A design with a problem that had a rate of < 1%, was fixed on the second batch of PSPs in Japan and never saw the light of day in America...
So... does Microsoft have bad tactics for questionable design of the 360 which had a problem rate estimated as high as 54% and scratches discs when bumped while vertical due to not including a $.50 piece of rubber?
That's where I was going. It may not have changed your mind... but I just wanted to point out that all companies do questionable stuff. That's all.
I think many of MS' tactics are questionable... but I don't let that stand in my way of enjoying games on the 360 because... Doot wrote: | I'm a fan of the games, not the console. |

No argument here.
That was actually kinda my point... the PS3 is a great deal at $300.
Even for it's time... it was worth the price for $600 for people that were willing to spend that much and use it for everything it had to offer.
I was not willing to spend that much but got one anyway with my Sony Card Points. If I didn't have that, I would not have gotten the system when I did.
The price of the system in the past is definitely valid reasoning for not getting the machine. |

Pity you guys don't get BBC's "Watchdog" over there, supposed to be one about Sony's Customer Support service and a possible cover up of problems in regards to the PS3 (from what I've read, something to do with a Yellow Light and another to do with the laser) and hiding failure rate numbers, plus charging £100+ to repair these faults.
I couldn't care less to be honest, but if Sony have been covering things up (and I've been told of posts being deleted on Sony's board that mention such problems, no idea how true those stories are though) then its a bad attitude from them.
Of course, being the BBC its only focused on Britain so they'll only be covering how Sony Computer Entertainment Europe deal with things, bare in mind Sony have mostly treated Europe pretty badly in most generations, so I've no idea what things are like over in the US' or Sony's native Japan. |

yeah I've heard about this as well.
The PS3's failure rate is supposed to be around 10%.
Not as bad as the 360... but still way above the "acceptable" 2% or 3% mark for electronics...
Personally... I'm hoping and expecting another class action suit of some sort like they had with the PS2 so everyone gets free repairs on first gen consoles since ... I believe... that's where the problems are focused.
Works for me. I did end up getting a free PS2 repair out of that class action... even though my PS2 never actually failed.
I would love to see this happen for the PS3s, b/c honestly... if mine fails, I want to make sure that I get the 60G back.
I like my backward compatibility. |

It does make me laugh the blind denial there is about this from people commenting on the likes of Kotaku and VG247, also the labelling of Iain Lee (who I believed presented the report on Watchdog) as bias because he's written a handful of articles on MSN.com as a freelancer, (one not long after the launch of the PS3 where he stated that he wasn't impressed with the console at that point and said it'd take something special for him to pick up the control pad again) completely ignoring the fact he's probably freelanced for a number of different companies over the years and written for Sony publications (either official or unofficial) in his career. |

Yeah agreed. I could see some of the "fanboy" comments as being valid if Watchdog had left MS alone considering.
But Watchdog has called out MS before.
They did a piece about the disc scratching fiasco a while back.
So what they are doing is not fanboyism more than it is consistency. They are calling out both companies for their faults.
Rightfully so I think.
I'm interested in hearing what is said. |
