I think with games like PSO, it's easier to tolerate people, because you don't have to share your actual quest space with them if you don't want to. There have been a couple of games that have tried to do the same thing, but nothing had come close to that feel of PSO.

Guild wars is the closest... it's like WoW meets PSO kinda. I loved the first GW... and I'll be getting the second.

Well more recently, games like Vindictus and Dragon's Nest on Nexon take more of that hub world feel. Guild Wars, which I didn't play too much of, was more along a linear line it seemed. You went to new places, but there weren't a whole lot of reasons to go back to an older area. I don't know for sure, it's been a while since I played it.

Check this PSO2 video out. It gives a pretty good look into the gameplay.

I tried playing with friends before. Regardless of community, I had a hard time matching my schedule with theirs. Whenever I was available to play, they weren't and vice-versa. If we happened to all be available at the same time, I was always the one late to the party and the game was full, so I couldn't get in. There were even times when I got kicked out to make space for a latecomer. Happened on pretty much every online game I played.

So, I gave up. I stick to offline games where I don't need a team that'll regulate my well-being. I can start and stop whenever I want. I don't run the risk of running into awful players. It's just a whole lot better for me. Online gaming was ultimately too stressful for me.

That's understandable. I never really got a "regular" group in original PSO, so I know how it can be frustrating to keep up with when people are on. But I guess I was a little spoiled by psotakus, because even if I didn't play with the same people all the time, I could find someone from the group who was on. But I do hate playing with unknowns. That's how someone ganked my Red Saber (which besides the Lavis Cannon was the one weapon I wanted over any others in the game) on DC PSO, and it really turned me off of PUGs for pretty much every game after that.

OMG PSO2 coming to Vita!!!!

http://www.siliconera.com/2012/03/09/phantasy-star-online-2-coming-to-playstation-vita/

Too bad it's not until 2013. Sad

So far away!

Seems as if there will be cross-play with the PC. I gotta say that it would make sense for them to put it on PS3 as well if this is the case.

Also gotta wonder... PSO on the DC ran smooth over dialup. Could Sega optomize their netcode so PSO2 ran smooth via the Vita's 3g... that would probably get me to give AT&T money.

Because of this, I will buy a Vita. I'm stoked about the cross play too, although with bein on the Vita, I think it has to have some for of voice support. They may have a soft keyboard for text with the touch screen, but I can't see myself using it. And I totally agree, there is no reason not to put it on PS3 too. I figure either way, I'll get a home version as well as the portable one.

Vita has party chat so that isn't too much of an issue. The question is will they build it into the game itself so that you can chat cross platform.
