OK so everyone has technical questions right, well if you have some, post them here...

It's kinda like our "Dear Doot" forum, but for geeky questions. And instead we can call it "So Shino..."

Ask a question, I will do my best to answer it or at least point you in the right direction.

And if I don't or can't answer, maybe there's another Geek on PO that can.

well then let me break the ice

So Shino...have you ever heard of a PC have a heatsink problem? And would a problem like that show symptoms like the PC shutting down for no reason whenever it wants?

Dear Excel Zero,

Actually yes I have heard of this.

More of the recent PCs and laptops will automatically shut down if they get to hot for a certain length of time in order to protect the hardware. This also has to do with your operating system.

My laptop does it. I run Win2K and I notice that whenever it does it, Windows never has to run through Scan disk afterward. Because of this I am assuming windows actually does a shut down and powers down the box for you.

As a solution, I would look into getting another fan or two for your computer. Remember that with P4s and processors of the like, you need one fan at least for just the processor. It's good to have an Exhaust fan for at least every Intake fan you have.

If your case doesn't support any more fans, I would look into getting another case. I know that Toolman has a case that actually has I think 4 intake fans and 6 exhaust fans. If you are interested, I will get the link from him and post it for you.

Hope this helps!
Teh Shino

But if you are looking for something cool or just want
looking at mine this site has some neat stuff on it.

Remember I got mine for free cause it was the last one
they had and it was dented.

Sorry man, no can get anymore. Maybe the site will give you another idea for a good case with cooling though.

Hope that helps,
Teh Shino

So, Shino...

I've had an occasional problem with my computer liking to lock up when the hard drive space falls below 5 gigbaytes free ('s an 80 GB hard drive, a Maxtor, I beleive)

I have no idea what the potential cause of it is. I've freed up HD space and things proceed as normal. Got any ideas as to why things are being so crabby?

This is actually quite true in some cases. Actually they usually perform the same up to about 75% if you have a good one. However, I don't think you should be freezing up because of it.

Check a couple of things. 1) Your virtual memory, 2) if you have a hibernation or standby feature, check to see how much space is set for the feature(s)

Do a scan disk and defrag the sucker. Also, if you haven't already, empty your recycling bin. I know someone that freed up over 5G of space b/c they kept deleting stuff but never emptied their bin.

Dear AzVegeta,

Well this is a common issue that is brought to my attention. It's really a shame when this poor folks bring innocent bystanders into their horrible world. What I tell people to do is find a deep dark place in their computer (if you have access to it) and create a shared folder, then download all that anime porn you love so much into it, then you can access the files on your computer over his network. How do you profit from this? Well you are not using your HD space for those bulky porn files of yours. This will also fill up his faster so that he doesn't have enough room to do anything on the computer anymore, thus making him involuntarily less of a "computer freak."

*Note to self... put password on home computer*

Hope this helps,
Teh Shino
