I like moderating, but it is definitely a responsibility! No matter how good a group you have, someone always wants to be a jerk and ruin it. Then there are the people who just accidentally cross borders, too. I have a rabbit email group I run, and people are only supposed to post sales posts on Thursdays, and all sales posts are supposed to list rabbits that are in a certain colour group or that carry (can produce) a colour from that group. I went on vacation for 3 weeks and turned it to unmoderated since I was not around to approve the posts. Well, so many people broke the sales posts rules it was not even funny! Some just were ignorant, others I had warned previous times before and they just ignored it. |

Yep I've been a mod on a few other forums in my time. You just have to know how to deal with people. I used to be infamous on another board for turning jerks into normal people. I'd bring em into a PM conversation and just sit down and talk to them one on one, not lecturing or going button happy locking things left and right. IMO it's more efficient that way. Fibbing doesnt hurt either when people don't know who you are. I once tricked a guy by acting like I was a viet nam veteran and i lectured him while still being pretty laid back. That turned out pretty good actually as the perp in question reformed his ways and became a productive poster. By the end he was pretty cool and told me I was like his dad lol.
Modship is a huge responsibility. I've been on some forums where if you're best friends with so and so you become a mod and IMO that leads to problems sometimes when the wrong people get into a position of power, any position including modship and they go nuts abusing powers and getting on peoples nerves. In those situations its best to eliminate the problem as quickly as you can before people start leaving etc. If you ever need any mod advice feel free to talk to me Excel Ill be more than happy to help ^_^ |

If anything...i'll just explode right there in the middle of AWA...due to my high connection to the spirits of everyone and everything with staff...what?
And your definitely right ultra...being a mod is a hard job. Whilst ive never been one, i do have that type of job in real life...keeping an eye on people, and making sure things dont become unproductive and dumb. It's truely difficult, and you need loads of patience...which is why good ol excel is gonna rock at the job!
