Think Rockstar isn't feeling the bite from all of the GTA scandals, despite the fact that they have made a buttload of money from it? Check this out:
" Rockstar Games will release Table Tennis for Xbox 360 in US and Europe on May 22 and May 26 respectively. "Our goal was to create a game that is perfectly addictive in its focused simplicity, a game that showcases the true possibilities of a next gen experience, not just in looks but in feel and pace..." stated Sam Houser of Rockstar Games."
GTA, State of Emergency, Bully, The Warriors,...and then Table Tennis? I think somebody said "Can we just make something that stays UNDER the radar for once?" LOL |

I heard if you win tennis games, you unlock hot coffee scenarios.
And that the tennis balls are bullets.
And instead of rackets they use guns.
/end bogus rumor I just made up |

Actually, the IGN article (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/693/693369p1.html) indicates that Rockstar San Diego actually started working on this before the Hot Coffee incident.
IGN wrote: |
More than a year ago Rockstar San Diego commenced on a game that would take advantage of the Xbox 360's graphic power and capture the intensity, speed and excitement of Table Tennis.
|
The article's dated March 3, 2006, a year and a day (officially more than a year) gives us March 2, 2005. The Hot Coffee "mod" didn't emerge until June 2005, according to a Gamespot article (http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/07/15/news_6129301.html). The article, dated 15 July 2005 refers to the Hot Coffee unlock surfacing the previous month (June 2005).
In other words, unless Rockstar San Diego is flat-out lying about how long they've been working on Table Tennis, this isn't any sort of consequence of the Hot Coffee incident. |

Well see this is why I gave up on IGn being a credible source of info a long time ago. I used to love them during the 16 and 32-bit days but now it's all fluff. How the hell do you use the "Xbox 360's graphic power" by showing table tennis? It's a green board with a white line...and a net. It's not even Tennis, for cryin' out loud. This is the stupidest project since Paintball ("let's make a shooting game where no one gets hurt and the ecxtiement factor of getting shot and feeling pain just isn't there"). It's like Halo Neutered. Then there's the "intensity, speed and excitement of Table Tennis". My God, how can you write this crap and call yourself a journalist? Seriously, the only way that could even begin to happen would be on the Revolution. At least that way you could capture the speed assuming the controllers are accurate enough but you're supposed to get all worked up about playing videogame table tennis? If this story came out three weeks later I would have sworn it to be an April Fools joke.
IGN has become a joke tho. |

it wont be just a case of a "pong" board......
http://media.xbox360.ign.com/media/815/815145/imgs_1.html
its looking like virtua tennis which im sure you'll remember "showed off the dreamcasts graphical potential"
and just coz these are the guys behind gta, manhunt, state of emergency and midnight club, doesnt mean they cant try something different for a change
you may not remember, but Rockstar originally started off as DMA design and made "friendly" games such as Lemmings, UniRally and Space Statio Silicon Valley, so theyre not just famous for GTA and all the violent titles theyve made recently, not outside the "hardcore" gaming front anyway.
in fact, heres a history of dma
If I didnt know better, I'd say you were turning into the macho american thats stereotyped the world over Razer, where only violence and bigger better faster guns are the order of the day.
Fair play to Rockstar for wanting to try something different, recently they released Red Dead Revolver, which while still violent, was a step away from their normal work. And quite frankly, I admire them, theyre making a game that probably wouldnt appeal to the chav gamer that littler Britains streets, the gamers that only play GTA, True Crime and FIFA Street, as they'll pick this up purely for the fact it'll have Rockstars logo on it. |

Me, a stereotype? nah, I don't even play Rockstar games nor 1st Person shooters. I'm still the Pokemon/Yugioh/card game fanatic. However, you have to admit this is far and away different from anything they've done in years. I actually like Lemmings (as I do most puzzle games) but to say they're "famous" for any of those games is a bit of an overstatement. You ask 99 people to name 1 game Rockstar made and if 3 of them say something other than a GTA game I'd be surprised. Kinda like asking for an Eidos game and not hearing Tomb Raider (tho I don't know who's actually responsible for that sad franchise now...Eidos, Core, or someone else) or a Midway series and not hearing Mortal Kombat.

Yeah, you're gonna hear that one alot too.
I don't endorse 'em. I just call 'em as I see 'em. |

I said "if i didnt know any better" on the stereotype front, and also said among the "hardcore" gamers, or if you like those who have been playing since before the Playstation, I remember playing lemmings at school when the teacher werent looking on the old Acorn Archemedes computers they had, and know DMA from back then.
I just think its a breath of fresh air that theyre offering something that isn't the same as theyve done recently.
Heck, if it gets Chavvy McScallywag from liverpool playing something other than GTA, I'm all for it! |

Actually I loved Space Station Silicon Valley -alot-. It broke my heart because I had a glitched cartridge so it was literally impossible to beat the game. Otherwise I loved it to bits. |
