No PS3 til Xmas???

"A breaking report from Hollywood trade mag Variety, which contains an interview with Sony CEO Howard Stringer, claims that the Sony PS3 will be delayed until the end of 2006.

The article contains numerous quotes from Stringer, but no one direct quote tackles the subject of the PS3's release date.

Instead, the article mentions that the PS3 "will be delayed as the company fine-tunes the chips that are crucial to the success of the console's Blu-ray function."

Another key line: "Sony will roll out the PS3 by year end, in time for the holidays."

We've contacted the reporter--stay tuned."

I figure I won't get one til Summer 2007 (my BDay) anyway.

Maybe delayed? What do they mean maybe? None of the games are even close to be finished and not a single clip of actual gameplay footage exists (from sans UT2007, but that could be from the PC version and not the PS3 version). Why release a video game system when none of the games are ready or available. At this point, it seems like Chistmas would be a better point projection (most of 360's stuff was shown around or before E3, so if actual PS3 gameplay footage is shown at this years E3, then yes, it is possible).

But even some analysts say it might not be out until 2007.

The best way to tell will be E3. If there is actual PS3 gameplay footage, that could mean the system will be available by Christmas (although that would be in Japan only, unless Sony follows Microsoft's idea of a worldwide launch). Most companies say their games are not ready either, so who knows.

I'm fine with the delay... there is still too much on this generation that I want to play.

Besides... seeing all the problems the 360 had.. I'd rather them get it right then rush to hit a date.

I think that's the best idea - get it right before you get it released. Adn have some games that everyone will want. Besides, at the price points I've been seeing, I'll probably upgrade some five or six years down the road, when I actually have the money to buy it.

Not only that, but why is the Next gen happening.

Oh yeah... b/c M$ was losing and they can't be 2nd in anything. So they screwed over their Xbox base by only having it out for 3 years before they put the new one out.

What's PS2 at now... 6 and counting. And they still have great games comig out for this Gen.

Zelda and Phantasy Star Universe anyone? Why should Sony be pressured into the next gen when there is truely no need to go there right now.

But yea Im not getting a ps3 till a price drop. I'm not that hardcore about hardware. I'm all about the games.
