I was thinking about all of these reality based video games like the Sims and the games where you play a fashion designer and Sim City and I thought it would be both cool and incredibly stupid to have a game where you are a worker in some dead end job.
I know it sounds stupid but just think about it. You are a bagger at a grocery store and you have to put all the food in the bags as it's coming off of the conveyer belt before it all piles up and you loose your tip. Or you're a fry cook at a fast food restaurant and you have to keep up with ever increasing orders. Or you drive a forklift in a warehouse. There are endless possibilities! And the game would be cheap and easy to make because you wouldn't need a super processor to run it. It's all so simple!
Then I got to thinking, who would really play that? How would working at a fast food chain hold anyones intrest? Well, lets say you're on the burger flipping level and you are trying to cook a lot of burgers real fast to boost your score and you under cook some of them giving the customers food poisoning. You could get docked points or get demoted to janitor where you'd have to clean the bathroom in a certain amount of time to get back on the grill. Or you could be so bad at that job that you'd get fired (Game Over).
To me the real kicker would be that the game would be cheap so people would buy it just cause it's cheap and it looks easy. How hard could bagging groceries or bussing tables be right? Then they take it home and play it and find out, "Holy crap, those jobs are harder than they look!" Granted you don't have to have a college degree to stock shelves but anyone who's worked at Wal-Mart will tell you, dealing with customers is no picnic.
I guess what I really want to know is, am I nuts for thinking this up or is there anyone else out there who would devote five minutes of their life to a game like this? |

In all honesty, I think I would buy it. Why? I actually don't know. Just seems like a good idea. |

I play games to get away from reality... Not to be thrown even deeper into it. |

Sounds like a Newgrounds-quality flash game to pass time. I probably wouldn't pay for it but I'd play it. |

I gotta say Kuda - I am hooked on CakeMania and Diner Dash on yahoo games. I'm so close to buying it. I know it sounds silly but dammit - they are fun. Much in the vein of your suggestion. Shopmania is fun too! |
