aye but Hamas is still listing in its charter that the elimination of Israel is its main goal and it does not recognize Israel as a state. Sinn Féin as far as i know is primarily for removing the brits from Ireland and used terror to get the message across but doesn't mind if they just stay on their island away from them.
Another thing to consider is the detail that the land that is Gaza was originally set aside for Palestine to be created in but that was not an option originally since Egypt took the land there for themselves and the west bank was taken by Jordan if i remember correctly till Israel took it back in the 6-days war. Thus the fight over the land should be directed at them not Israel but since those countries are Muslem and Israel was to be the land for the displaced Jews post WW2 (and historical homeland) they "must die" as since either side to attack could kill off Hamas. It is just that they could get support if they attack Israel versus the others.
Another major factor is that Iran is funding Hamas as well as many other groups that attack Israelis and that they (Iranian govt) have a policies that deny any possible recognition of a Jewish state and wholesale denial, especially by their current president, of the Holocaust.
as a result of all these factors, the point of them being elected as leaders loses some bearing. Plus keep in mind in the old days when the PLO was going, their leader was an Egyptian, not from the region of historical Palestine, and before 1948 the term Palestinian referred to the Jews in the region almost exclusively.
but all my points wound their way from the original point i was responding to. Yes they were elected as leaders like Sinn Féin. just keep in mind that democratically elected means the mob liked you and the "Democracy" America now espouses is actually for a Republic not a Democracy. Otherwise (in Democracy) the minority is never represented and is crushed by the masses. I could go on for hours on this topic of Political Theory but i will just stick to the topic. sorry that i went so wordy...you know how i am when ever i have a soapbox or want to poke at something like McKinney's antisemitism (or her getting elected twice, etc.) |
