We saw the straightforward BS that M$ handed out in that well publicized interview and to be fair I have to post the Slippity Do Dah that Nin's rep handed out. Here's just an excerpt that had me laughing. Notice neither a confirmed "yes" or "no" in the paragrapg long answer.
"GameSpot: By the end of this year, Wii Fit and the Balance Board will have been out for a year and a half in the US, with Nintendo developing a total of three compatible games--one (Wii Music) that uses the board in a limited fashion, and another (Wii Fit) that is an enhanced version of the board's pack-in game. Can we expect Nintendo to step up support for the Balance Board?
DK: The Balance Board is a remarkable accessory, and there is a tremendous amount of potential for games to be developed using that truly fun interface. As you know, there are numerous third-party titles on the market that utilize the Wii Balance Board. Certainly, our designers are always looking at ways that we continue to utilize our accessories, and the Wii Balance Board is certainly one of those accessories developers are looking at leveraging to further enhance gameplay. "
GameSpot: With the Wii MotionPlus, can we expect more robust first-party support than the Wii Balance Board has received?
DK: I don't want to do a comparison of Wii MotionPlus to the Balance Board, but I will say Wii MotionPlus has tremendous potential. The response we've gotten from consumers has been fabulous and phenomenal, so we definitely recognize it's a very powerful, engaging accessory that completely transports you right into the heart of the game you're playing. There's no other motion-sensing controller like it on the market, so we're excited to look at incorporating that experience into other titles.
Not as blatant as M$'s replies but still, very non-commital. Why can't companies simply answer questions for us? |

Because it's marketing job to tell absolutely everything as positively as possible. And because people buy it. Marketing tells stuff, people believe it and everyone goes on their merry way.
Translating the above, the guy's really saying: "We're gonna focus on the MotionPlus; forget about the board for a while." Will people be happy if he tells it that way? Nope; they'll jump at his throat. So he's got to word it in such a manner as to imply "The board is an awesome thing, but the MotionPlus is even awesomer.
(In other news, I'm playing Alone in The Dark for 360. God. I didn't pay a cent for this game and yet I want my money back.) |

Nintendo releasing a product without fully supporting it?! That's unheard of!
But that was a one time thing.
I mean seriously..Like only once or twice it happened.
Yeah, umm well it's not like they made something for a fitness game and didn't support it.
Son of a...Ok then umm. It's not like they ever released a system that had no games. (In comparison to other systems at the time)
Man...I just can't win. |

Nintendo can do no wrong... I don't get it really.
I'm glad I didn't buy into the Balance board.
And Wii Motion "should have been that way in the first place" just adds to the price of the already most expensive first party controller on the market.
Now the price is $80 for a controller as opposed to $60. But since all the parts are separate... you have a "choice." |

Well I'll defend the actual items as opposed to the rhetoric that was spewed.
The Motion Plus "should" have been included from the start but that probably wasn't cost effective (we all know how quickly hardware and tech drops month to month) and cost was the main objective of the Wii. Still and all, when compared to Sony and M$'s motion responses, theirs are three years late to the party so you can't complain about that playing field.
The Balance Board is great WHEN KEPT IN RELATION TO Wii Fit (and I guess exercise software in general). My daughter uses it and my GF's uncle and aunt have used it to lose over 100 lbs combined. The main fault of it, like the Wii, is that it's reliant on lazy people like myself to utilize it. It's not, nor was it ever truly intended to be, a game controller. |

But, the kid has a DS sitting right next to him and he's playing the Virtual Boy. Point Virtual Boy. |

Come on, the kid probably doesn't even know the DS is there. Hell, you could sneak a full 200 piece orchestra and 36 Las Vegas showgirls past someone playing a Virtual Boy. LOL |
