Yeah I've been trying to get into the under appreciated art of spriting. I have massive good ideas but I can't seem to figure it out any help, assistance, tutorials?

Gryph is the sprite master around here.

Demonic does some sprites too.

Maybe they can give you some tips.

Dai did some sprites for the po rpg. I'm not sure if Faye did any. I don't live with him, thank Mod. Neutral

Yeah, I did the ones we're using on the RPG, heres some things I discoverd:

*Tinker - This is pretty simple. Find a sprite you like, say FF6 sprites, or a custom set you found on the net, and start playing with it. Just tinker, exchange colors, palette swap, make the hair a few pixels longer. This'll let you start to see how dimentions work with such a limited about of pixel space to work with.

*Use a Base- When I created the PO sprites, I had a one up on going from blank. I used a spirte set I liked on the net as a base, just to determine where the head and limbs were in relation to the body, then I looked at the PO art and "transfered" it onto the spirte. What Im trying to say is try making a sprite version of a character you like first, so your not just going all willy nilly.

*Be consistant- Unless one character has a good reason for not looking like the other characters proportionally wise, be consistant in your chracter design. You dont want one person's head a pixel left of every other character, or one character to have shoulders two pixels wider than another. Unless its going to dramatically add to the charcter, like I did with GAAZ's larger face in the PO RPG, theres no need to deviate from the set pattern for the other characters.

*Understand shading- Even one pixel can make a big difference in how a character looks. Experiment with different shades of colors on clothing. You can add a lot of depth to a spirte with a few well placed dark spots near the arms and between the legs or at the torso area.

*Go willy nilly- Wheee!!! Just experiment. Theres not a subsitute for playing around and doing whatever you want. Thats how you learn. Wink
