Rant! (gaming industry)

Allright, at first I pondered posting this on my personal LJ, but I think it's worth the rant here... It's about a girl (me) who was raised in a very noble and "fight against the wrong of work environement/facist ways" It's how I am, it's how I was raised... I have a big mouth, not afraid to use it...

A few weeks ago, In some video game compagnie that shall remain nameless, I worked and started to lose the few strings of sanity i had left, the place, even though an awsome workgroup, friendly coworker and general awsome place to work on, is rotten in the inside (a bit like the old EA, which quickly changed their ways to become one of the best canadians employers) The compagnie sacks people whitout notices, do things that are totaly ilegual, and gets away with it, because they prefer paying the fees, cheaper this way. They prefer opening studios in Romania, Mexico, china and even Vietnam because over there, it's all cheap labor (and even though they do a crapass job for the lack of training and...well, sometime i wonder, brain...) (let's face it,a drunk, lethargic monkey could do our jobs.. yet they still do a crappy work...whatever)

anyway, that means, that us (as in, the montreal studio) are slowly, but surely sacked, with any stupid reasons possible... So here I am, fighting for what I believe is right, fighting for 3 guys so they keep their job, chewing and kicking butts to save their asses... Which I did, in the process I lost my job, a noble sacrifice, as I was concidering leaving anyway... just not getting fired. I still believe I did the right thing...
Now this is where it become tricky, let's call the guys : Bob, Zack and Asshole

Bob's a goth, friendly (well as friendly as a goth can be) we got along great since he's as sarcastic and...well.. he's goth

Zack - a good ol' around geek, a bit chubbyl with a big heart, suuuper fun to hang out with,also the provider of mighty concert tickets (come on, NIN, in a lodge!)

and asshole - a musician who, I admit, rocks, concidered a friend, even then...(note, he knows i call him asshole, heck he calls him self a dickhead... whatever)

Anyway, this lil succube decided to save their asses from the cut, as let's face it, they are newb, so the first to go

Everyone in the compagnie (who still works there) agrees to make some pression, no overtime, not fight against the dev for the releases and so on... Note that they did fire 20 people and this mean, overtime in less than two weeks because deadlines arent respeccted...see my point i think . But asshole, unlike anyone else, totaly unaware of the fact that i gave my best, even my job to save their asses (allright, there was also the fact that i was stirring a lot of unwanted shit toward the big boss with all this ilegual bonanza (i should SOOOO be a lawyer at least that's what everyone says)
My team leader was forced to put me on the list, so was the manager.. allright you get the idea.

But yea, asshole don't wanna do the thing, just because... no reason other than cash with the OT, when WE did pression, we didint do OT last time because they fired people, so they can see we need more people.. anyway, him, he goes against that, will do OT, when I bit, chewed and kicked asses so he keeps in job (note, he was in the list to be fired)

so what do you know... do something good, and it blows in your face...

f***ing mercenary. That's what he is; all for the money, with or without the glory and honor of it all in complete disregard of whoever helped him cause all that matters is his lil hairy ass. Also, yeah asshole seems to fit him well, but huh, can we say uber asshole here? He seems proud to be one and not give a damn about it. Talk about lack of self-respect and dignity <_<

So the guy went against the grain and buggered everything else up for everyone else? Typical of everything in the entertainment industry, Not sure if your aware of the Miners strikea couple of decades ago here in Blighty, I dont know the full details, but Im sure it was over a pay rise as their job was dangerous (down a hole in the ground digging for coal!) so they went on strike to try and get this rise, but some people struggled so much money wise they had no choice but to go back.

If the guy has money problems then Id say it was acceptible, if not then yeah hes an asshole, but its sad to say this, maybe youve learnt a lesson from this, no one gets anywhere in life from helping others now days, its a bitch but its true.
