Now that I have your attention.
They are taking over the world
Say what you want about Wal-Mart but they are officially here to stay. I think they may be as big or bigger than McDonalds. |

Known that for a while, GAAZ. It's an efficient, almost ruthless way of doing things. Soon there will be Wal-Mart everywhere and all will be powerless to stop it. |

Someone should remake a Wal-Mart ad and change the slogan for "All your base are belong to us." ^_^ |

I work for Target, but it doesn't matter to me in terms of "omg zee competition!" Wal-Mart scares me in general... In the boonies where I'm originally from, the cliente of Wal-Mart is quite frightening. o.O |

For every Wal-Mart store that opens, about 200-400 jobs are created.
For every Wal-Mart store that opens, there are countless local stores that are put out of business.
For every Wal-Mart store that opens, at least a thousand jobs are destroyed. |

Well since Wal-mart signs my mom's checks I wouldn't go against the boss. Wal-Mart is just that powerful. The small almost always gets destoried by the big. Remmeber when Blockbuster first came out and the destoried all the Mom and pop video stories? Wal-mart does the same because if anything they know how to do good business. |

I wouldn't exactly call it "good" business; the customer service is horrible, and whenever I used to in there I felt like I was going to have a panic attack because it was so crowded and noisy. The only reason people shop at wal-mart at all is because it's so cheap.
Oh yeah, and it's cheap because they import their goods from factories located in the slums of china, that work their people 7 days a week and pay them less than a penny per hour ^_________^ remember that the next time you go shopping. |

As much as I have shopped in Walmart, and as much as I have studied Walmart in my business classes, and as much as I have enjoyed it in the past, I will be the first to say that it is going too far and should be stopped. My thoughts are that, fine, they're made their point...they're good at business. But do we honestly need so many Walmarts? Do small to medium sized towns really need multiple Walmarts?
Yes, yes, I know of ALL the atrocites that they have been accused of. Yes, they have put smaller businesses out of business. But like Kurjohoto said, this pratice has been going on for YEARS. Just walk around the mall and look at all the stores and think about all the small mom and pops that those put out of business. And honestly, I don't want to have to pay exorbitant prices to buy everything that comes into my house, and neither do the less fortunate that Walmart primarily caters to. Yes, I know of the accusations of unfair labor practices and non-unionized labor. But you know what, if you don't like working there, no one is keeping you. There are other jobs out there. The only thing that really gets my riled up about them are the eminant domain cases that they are involved with...but part of that is the fault of local governments who are too mesmerized by having money thrown at them to actually say no to something like that.
All I know, however, is that at this point, there really isn't an effective way of stopping the Walmart steam-roller. They have become so big, and have their hands in so much business, that if they were to suddenly go out of business, there would be an economic crisis.
I don't know if any of that makes sense, or if I even made sense in the above. All I know is that I tend to stay out of Walmart now if I can. But it's not really because of the "atrocites". I just prefer the overall atmosphere of Target much better. |
