How do you get it? TV? Cell? Internet? Newspaper? Don't care?
I just suddenly thought of something while watching the news on my cell phone. The short, informative clips meant to enlighten you, bring the world to you, they seem more like they're making the world smaller.
The world is getting smaller. Information is instant. I can know anything I want by googling it on my phone. I could be at the stoplight and forget who the 23rd president was. I could search it, and there he is, biography and all. Benjamin Harrison.

A whale was just saved in Brazil by rescue teams, guided back to the ocean.
...
NYC Firefighters can't decorate their lockers with flags or pictures of loved ones anymore.
...
Democrats say they will block Bush from getting the money he needs to send more troops into Iraq.

This isn't about what's in the news, it's about the news itself. Virtually anyone can be on the john and still be able to have some way to check the current terror alert level, or their stock.
What are we sacrificing for this? |

News I get by the random chance I read the front cover of a news paper or it's on the TV.
But I dislike the evening news, it's so slanted one way and only what they want you to hear and the side they want you to hear. |

Generally, I get my news by listening to the radio while on my way to work. However, lately I've been reading some news online during work while I'm bored. |

I get my daily local paper and sit down in the mornings and read it when I get home from work. Its also something I can do at the table with Auran while hes eating lunch, so were together and its not TV related. Daily papers also have comics and crosswords, whats not to love? |

That is a very good question. Yet still, it amazes me that so many people are still completely oblivious to the world around them. Maybe the problem isn't our extreme connectivity, but the lack thereof.
I get my news from a variety of places. Mostly through CNN and yes, The Daily Show (sad as that is  !) and also I read quite a few articles online. I don't really like to read the newspapers; most of them are so opinionated and dripping with political slant that it's hard to make out where truth ends and personal feeling begins. A lot of news on the TV is like that, as well, although CNN has a respectable way of saying "Here's the story ______ and this is how I feel about it ___________," so it isn't so bad. |

Much of my news is fed through the network of weird people I make contact with. As such, I don't get much of the mainstream news, but I get interesting stuff nonetheless. |

While I have been listening to/reading the news more lately because I have nothing better to do, I am still somewhat oblivious about what's going on in the world. And honestly, I like it that way. Very rarely do I hear or read things that are positive on the news. And what's not negative is usually just stupid, like bees that can be used to sniff out terrorist bombs. Seriously people! Most of it makes me want to hole-up in my house and never come out. It's depressing. We constantly chastise video games and movies for being violent, but in all reality, all you have to do is watch/read/listen to the news, and you'll get all the violence and negativity that you could possibly want. |
