No, I'm not kidding. I heard this on the radio this morning:

Cartoon Promo Causes Panic in Boston

The gist is that a guerilla marketing company based out of New York came up with an idea to advertise Aqua Teen Hunger Force by placing light boards all over major cities that look like the Mooninites giving the middle finger. Apparently, it caused wide-spread panic in Boston, who thought that it was a terrorist attack and shut down bridges, roads, and railways. Now they're talking about prosecuting the guys responsible to the full extent of the law.

Honestly, and this may be because I know what ATHF is and because I have a background in marketing, but Boston, and the rest of the country, needs to calm the hell down. It's a sad world we live in when something that should be funny causes widespread panic througout a major city.

...Is that a LITE BRITE? OMG TEH AWESOME!

...Yeah, people need to chill. But then again, really, I'm not surprised. People panic over everything these days. A woman in my Philosophy of Religion class was telling me that her son got put in handcuffs because a girl he was calmly ignoring finally got to him and he told her to (SHUT UP, BITCH) and got sent to the Counselor's office...where, he told her he was sorry and that he shouldn't have said that. Then she asked him what he was thinking and he said "I wanted to ring her dirty neck" or something like that to show he was angry more than because he actually wanted to kill her, and he got cuffed for Terroristic threats, even though he only said this when he was -asked-, and not to the girl, etc etc.

Apparently flat boards with lights on them look like bombs.

If you go to the Adult Swim website (www.adultswim.com) there is an apology statement to the city of Boston on the front page. Not sure how long it's going to stay up.

I know that to maintain a sense of responsibility, they have to apologize. But I think it's honestly just a beauracratic thing. They have no reason to apologize. It was a creative ad campaign that stupid people just couldn't handle. I think a better thing to put on their front page would have been a picture of one of the light boards. Although they probably would have taken a lot of heat for that.

From an outsiders point of view, the thing America is mocked for the most these days is the mass hysteria when ever theres even something thats not understood very well or is a little out of the ordinary, your country is gaining a reputation for running around screaming like a little girl on fire. Stuff like this doesnt help either.

And therein lies the ultimate problem. If we're afraid of terrorists, this is exactly the behavior that we should be AVOIDING because it's exactly what they want. They know that they have gotten to us.

Wasn't there something about a Mario box that caused trouble too? Like, somebody thought it was a bomb?

People -are- stupid.

OMG! It was an advertisement for Aqua Teen!

All I knew was that it was from Cartoon Network...Gawd! How stupid can you get.

That's one of the shows on there that I just can't stomach. I feel like I lose more braincells watching that than a whole day's worth of cartoons.
