So I was browsing some news sites today while bored at work, and I came across this:

http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/TV/02/07/prince.superbowl.ap/index.html

Apparently, critics are saying that Prince's halftime show during this years Superbowl was a bit too "suggestive". Specifically, the part where he performed behind a giant sheet with lights that projected a giant silohette of himself. Apparently, there is controversey as to where exactly he chose to locate his guitar.

Honestly...what the hell is wrong with these people? Because of Janet Jackson's crap in 2004, it's like someone has to search for something to complain about every year. I really thought that we had moved on, but apparently that's not the case because we still go around looking for every way possible to turn things into moral debates.

Oh no! The children! The poor, poor children!

Guh. Parents should really just learn to watch things before their kids do. And with TiVo, that's now EVEN EASIER. Whoo! So, just get TiVo, record the show, watch it, then let your kids watch it. They're not going to die if they have to see it an hour later than they usually would, really.

The thing is, it's not even that much of an issue where parents would have to prevent their precious children from seeing it. I guess it *looked* phallic, but I know that when I was 5, that's not what would have went through my head. It would have been a non-issue, and doesn't need to have attention drawn to it, because it just proves the paranoia and overall "jackassness" of the American public...or at least some members of it.

I noticed it too, as I was waiting in line for dinner ( I'm with Stupid same line as DLOE, actually), the halftime show was on a TV... It was fairly obvious that he was trying to be phallic with the guitar... Or more specifically, the thing that was jutting unneccesarily from the side of the guitar (to make it look like the Prince symbol)...

Sadly, there was sound turned up on the TV, so I was inflicted with the aweful guitar work of the purple wonder. Frankly, the electric rendition of mating-cats-in-a-blender was much more offencive than the goofy paradoy that was the silohette.

I particularly like Prince. Think he has done a great amount of work in pioneering music. I couldn't help but giggle at the knee jerk reaction most people were going to have from the silhouette, but hey, he was just playing his guitar. And he sounded damn good.

I say something is wrong with the folks who get offended by the shadow show - because their heads must be in the gutter to mistake it for phallicy. Smile

That was the point. It was SUPPOSED to look like his symbol.

Its gotten to the point to where you can't seem to do anything right anymore. There's always someone with their mind in the gutter who finds a way to make a person's performance inappropriate.

My guess is that its a publicity stunt.

How many people remember who did last year's Halftime show? I don't. But maybe that's because there wasn't any controversy over it.

The 2004 incident turned the phrase "Wardrobe malfunction" into a common term now and ppl STILL remember it.

It's funny that no one remembers...considering it was the Rolling Stones.
