This is short and to the point.

I am getting really tired of watching weapons form tournaments in which someone gets huge points for wielding a katana like it was a baton. Even worse, when the commentators call a routine full of gymnastics and combat-useless sword form "realistic". I only took three months of Toyama Ryu Shinkendo and I could see fatal holes in a form I just watched. Especially since none of the cuts had any follow-through and were usually little more than abortive flash. I may not have ever progressed past Ichimonji, but I mean damn - Joe Corley may actually be the worst thing that ever happened to martial arts.

So, anyone else want to kvetch about bastardized combat/weapons forms being treated as if they were O SO AMAZING?

Or better yet,
Spinning around and being graceful looks cool, but then someone comes along and just shoots you, and the fight is over...

Proof I've been w/ DLOE long enough to pick up on his firearm logic, although I've still never fired anything myself...squeamish much? Yesh!

Oh god there's more. This form is pretty similar to the one the girl presented on whatever tourney was on ESPN2 a few days ago. He pulls most of his cuts, "slicing" with the blade instead of "throwing the tip" like you're supposed to - his entire form would look oh-so-pretty in a movie, but I'd love to see how he fares against my old sensei. Or even some of the students who were third rank in Shinkendo and green belt in Aikibujutsu.

Oh, in contrast, one of his teammates delivers a traditional yet still functional bo form. EDIT: Oh, and it's fun to watch.
