You're right I'm afraid the ones that seem to have any sort of interest in the world around them are the elite few. I guess yesterday when I posted my response I was feeling quite cynical, and not faithful of anyone remotely close to my age, but there is a glimmer of hope that this generation won't be the so-called downfall of civilization as this article may be insinuating. If it so happens the country may fall apart it's not one generation's fault, but it's every generation that passed through that didn't try to make a difference.
Also, I can't agree more that self-esteem is warped to the point that it seems an act. The strive for perfection in our society is very stressful for all of us. However, have you ever considered to question whether our society's tactics to nurture and stroke our ego to gain more self-esteem, is actually the wrong way of going about it?

I would agree that it's the wrong way about it, but I don't like to complain about things unless I have a proposed solution.

So...Hmm, a solution. A definite media makeover would be helpful, I think, but what about freedom of the press? I personally think that solitude is a wonderful way to build self-esteem. Yes, that may not make sense, but consider.

A few months away (preferably in rural settings or forest) from any judgements besides your own. You figure out what you can accomplish through your own means. I know I'd personally love to take those few months, but I'm not entirely sure how my family would react, heh. A rite of passage would be very beneficial to today's generation as something for them to do for themself, simply for themself and no outside gain besides perhaps some confusion and respect.

Perhaps I'm old fashioned. Any other proposals?

I wont lie...most of the generations below mine, disgust me. I'm only 27, and I just get absolutely disgusted almost anytime I go out now. I hate going out now, because I have to deal with these brats that are out there.

Granted there are the few out there, who show respect to those around them, and those I dont mind...so if you show respect, know this isnt directed at you. But to those out there who dont, they are a waste in society. Thier parents either pampered them too much, or didnt punish them enough, but either way, they are spoiled, they feel they are entitled to everything, and therefore, will in turn one day spread that disease onto thier children...and its only going to get worse.

I get really pissed off. It takes a lot to anger me, very few things do. Offending me and pissing me off, genuinely, it really takes a lot...except disrespect, abuse, and stealing. Those 3 things will set me off almost immediately. Part of why parents are afraid to discipline thier children, is because schools are teaching children about abuse, incorrectly, I feel. They are making the children feel like its ok to go run and call the police or tell on thier parents, only because the parent may have yelled at the kid for doing something wrong...or for a spanking for f's sake. Having been abused, I get really pissed off when a child runs a family, ebcause the parents are afraid to do anything. The parent should be a damn parent to thier children. if your child is doing wrong, you tell them its wrong, and teach them why...you dont just let them do it, or they grow up thinking its ok...

sorry got on a tangent there, teehee, ...back to the college kids. I dont care much for most of them either. Look, if you went/are going to college, kudos to you. I dont mean to knock you in any way....BUT...I get infuriated, when I am doing the exact same job as someone else, and they get paid more than me, all because they have a little piece of paper that said they graduated something, somewhere. I have found that I, the non-college goer, works 10x harder than the college person, but get poo to show for it. Those of us out there who never went for whatever reasons (usually money) have to work that much harder to prove ourselves, but we learn so much more from experience, than we could probably ever learn from college, especially since you have to be trained at each place you work anyways! I have been working since i was 15, and have never been out of a job longer than 2 weeks. I dont even remember what it was like to ahve multiple weeks off back to back...I've never done it since middle school. I just get severly upset when someone who went to college, feels they are better than me ebcause they did...and I just want to punch them in the face sometimes.

Wow Im violent today. Weeee :Whip:
I guess dont cut me off when driving lol.

Anywho I jsut rambled all kinds of stuff, if no one can make sense of it, thats ok, I cant make sense of it myself sometimes. Smile

Now back to your regularly scheduled thread...
