Tralala now for my input. Think of the Ocean plant eating ocean animals vs meat eating ones. Sure theres a lot of plant eats but theres a hell of a lot more meat eaters in the ocean and works in a giant chain with the lil things on the bottom eating the fish who eat plants and other random neuteriants in the water, then above them is slightly larger fish who eat them and so on and so forth.

As far as carnivore Vs herbivore Africa is a good example because the carnivores keep the herbivore population in check. And some of the herbivores in Africa are great deal larger than the carnivores.

And on a completely messed up side of things.... if we started killing people off, it'd lower the human population. If they were dead, they couldn't reproduce, spreading their stupidity even further than it has already gone, cause less waste out of complete ignorance, and less wasted air on them and their hordes of offspring. (can we tell I work in customer service?) There'd also be less people to feed, so less livestock and or veggies needed to feed them, causing less waste that way as well. I just came up with a solution to all of these problems. Kill the stupid people.

While I disagree with a lot of what he says, I do like his main point--people need to stay away from junk food and fast food. I can't agree with that enough.

Oh yes, it is! I was unable to find exact numbers, but I remember hearing that veg numbers have tripled since the 90s, and the number of veg*n restaurants have doubled since 2000, which backs up the idea that more people are converting to the diet.

I am proud to say, I am responsible for several converts XD and it seems to spread that way; I was raised eating very little meat, and switched over completely after visiting family in the UK, who were vegetarian and doing very well. I think that once people who have considered the diet (for whatever reason--health, morals, etc) see the lifestyle in action, it helps convince them to give it a try.

Aka, out of curiosity, how were you converted? When did you start, and why?

I don't know how to respond when even a medical professional who is not biased in either direction and gives scientific examples is not enough to budge someone. I never said vegan was wrong, just that there are some medical concerns and biological facts to the diet. The fact that the science also states this but some will not budge just makes me believe more in the idea that people believe what they want to believe and not what is true. I'm done with this one.

Peace.

It's not a very interesting story, really. I gave up red meat Winter 2004 as an attempt to keep healthy (I was substituting my daily swimming with homework and knew that I had to change my diet or something would go wrong). I had no vegetarians in my life (Ah, good ole' South) and quite simply decided to do it on my own. Eventually I started eating less and less meat altogether and while at an Ecology camp in Blacksburg (It was actually at the VA Tech Biological Station) in the summer of 2005 I decided to give up meat altogether. And, well, it's been true love ever since. Part of it also has to do with my dad moving out of the house, since he was the meat-buying one in the family, as my mother is Mediterranean and they generally eat less meat. So yeah, I stopped getting weekly filet-mignons and I stopped liking meat. Even the smell of a burger in the same car as me makes me sick now, but watching other people eat meat is no problem.

I didn't find out my reasons for converting until after I converted. I just thought, "I'll stop eating meat." I didn't really research the vegetarian cause until I wanted to know what I was doing to myself, though I had researched the supplements I would need to moment I gave up meat. I've always tried to watch my diet, especially my protein because of the swimming I used to do (I try to keep those muscles) and the muscles I've developed from fencing. I eat much healthier now, and I'm much more consciencious of what I put in my mouth.

It'll be really exciting when I move to Indianapolis...I'll be living right next to a local farmer's market and a tiny organic open dairy farm. Ok, sorta off topic. XD;
