Yup. The Head of the Xbox realm is now gone.

EA will put him to head up the EA Sports Division! Funfun.

Confirmed: Peter Moore Leaving for EA Sports
Out of a desire to move his family back to the Bay Area.
By Patrick Klepek, 07/17/2007
UPDATE: Microsoft and the man himself both confirmed the rumors just moments ago: Peter Moore has left his position at Microsoft to head up the EA Sports division. How come? Moore says it's a desire to move his family back to Northern California, where he'd established himself before taking up a position at Microsoft.

"Peter has contributed enormously to the games business since joining Microsoft in 2003 and we are sad to see him go," said Robbie Bach, president of Entertainment and Devices Division at Microsoft. "Since that time, he presided over the global launch of the Xbox 360", spearheaded a revitalized and rebranded Games for Windows business, and helped steer the console's ascent."

In his place comes Don Mattrick, former president of Electronic Arts.

"Over the past two decades, and the past few months in particular, I've worked closely with many of Microsoft's top leaders and I've always been impressed by their talent, passion and commitment," said Mattrick. "I'm thrilled to join an already strong team that's delivering truly amazing gaming experiences to customers around the world. I've never been more excited about the future of the industry, and firmly believe Microsoft will lead the next great innovations in gaming."

ORIGINAL STORY: Earlier today, 1UP started hearing from a number of sources that suggested Microsoft executive Peter Moore would be leaving the Xbox 360 company to head up EA Sports.

So far, Microsoft has denied such reports. "We have no announcements at this time," said a company spokesperson.

We'll be keeping tabs on this throughout the day -- even though this is supposed to be a day off. Thank, Peter!

So what does this mean. Well apparently Sony is looking forward to working with him. I wonder if Moore feels the same way?

Sony Excited to Work with Peter Moore
Former Xbox head suddenly a friend to Sony.
By Patrick Klepek, 07/17/2007
This is a little awkward. Sony's taken heat lately for third-party sports titles running at 30 frames-per-second, compared to 60 frames-per-second on Xbox 360, but as Microsoft executive Peter Moore leaves the company to head EA Sports, Moore himself will need to reconcile the differences between Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

And Sony's ready to embrace Moore with open arms. Sony Computer Entertainment America President and CEO Jack Tretton released this official statement:

"We wish Peter the best of luck in his new role at Electronic Arts and look forward to working with him. We have an outstanding relationship with EA and their sports products have been incredibly successful on all our platforms. I am sure this will continue with Peter now at the helm."

What will be Moore's first move at EA Sports? We should find out soon enough.

So it sounds like more of a trade to me. LOL

It'll be fun to see how close Moore's ties to MS still are.

Yeah EA's PS3 ports really sucked it up this year.

But from what I hear, the PS3 will be their lead platform next year. We'll see how that fairs out with Moore at the helm.

I wouldn't doubt if EA and Sony didn't do as much work side by side anymore.

Besides that, there's all the shit happening to the Xbox right now.

The extending of the warranty.
The class action suits from the system scratching up discs b/c of another design flaw.
The game division being $1.9Billion in the whole this year when they were only $1.28Billion in the whole last year.

The system may be leading the pack right now, but overall, MS' game division isn't doing that hot.

I think Pete just got out while he could.
