They're one of the most dangerous vehicles to use on the road, simple because theres no crumple zones whatsoever. anything hits you and thats that, the cars a write-off, and chances are, so are your legs.

If you want a small cheap run around, the Suzuki Swifts a pretty damn good car (Top Gear car of the year two years running I believe).

I only spent 14,000 on my mother's car.

But they get like 2000 MPG and you can fold them up into a 2000 pound briefcase for easy storage and carry

Yeah - we're all abuzz about the smart car here at work. We've launched our entire Conserves campaign and reducing our "carbon footprint". I'd drive it. I'm considering Yaris-ness anyway!

ARGH! They're death traps, yes their carbon friendly, but quite frankly, their not human friendly. Any accident in them and you're seriously putting your life at risk more so than almost any other car. A Yaris is more sensible if you're going for a very small car, but I'd still take the Suzuki Swift route if it were me. Also, NEVER go for French cars, they're dangerous too, I think its Renaults that have a dodgy bonnet/hood clip where it just unlatches and the bonnet can fly up...

Saving the environments great, but don't put your own life at severe risk too!

If you want less of a carbon footprint wait until Ford starts releasing EcoBoost cars. It's what they are replacing hybrids with. Smaller, stronger, lighter, better mpg, and less carbon it a neatly packaged turbocharged engine. The cars get up to 20% better mpg and up to 15% less emissions than the naturally aspirated engines they will replace. First car that's going to be featuring this is the new Lincoln MKS which is replacing the TownCar as the flagship sedan. It has 40 more horsepower, and 60 more ft-lbs of torque in the in a larger broader powerband than the old 4.6 all while getting 2mpg(2mpg doesn't seem like much but if you think that the TownCar get's 18/25 that's a huge improvement percentage wise) and emitting 15% less CO2.
