This is exactly why the gaming community and industry needs to wise up and ignore this particular guy, his anti-gaming beliefs are his calling card, and he chases ambulances for this very reason.
Rather than stressing about individual people attacking our choice of hobby (or some employment) we need to stand up and show we are mature and rather than resort to name calling or threats, just try and calm down a bit, step back and approach things rationally.
His ideals started out as something I personally felt was very responsible, in that there needs to be a proper, legal classification (classification, not censorship) system in place that at least prevents games featuring mature content getting into the hands of those that shouldn't have it at a retail level, no reccomendation system is going to make an impact whatsoever, it needs to be legally enforced, however, I do think it should be up to the parents discretion (hence, I agree with what may be happening in the UK pretty soon where all games have to go through the BBFC).
But, he's katamari'd over the years and his campaign has got even more unrealistic, sparking abuse from videogames of all ages that has only added fuel to his own personal fire. |

Until Fox news stops airing him... the STUPID that is the majority of America will see him and many will listen.
Game sites have stopped reporting him.
But is that the smartest thing to do?
Reminds me of a quote from "The American President"

It holds true in my opinion.
Most of the people in this country will just listen to whoever is on the boobtube and with the absence of truly intelligent people... they'll listen to the idiots.
Sorry if I don't agree with your assessment. But as long as Fox News Airs this idiot unopposed, people will listen. And that pisses me off. |

That's fine - it's your right to be upset over their ignorance as it is their right to be uneducated.
I, personally, would love to see the statistics of who watches Fox News in America. I would also like to see the statistics surrounding which of those viewers believe every word 100%. If that statistic is over half of the nation, even by 1%, then yes, I'd agree with your statement that "STUPID that is the majority". However, blanketing a statement such as that does not give a lot folks out there credit that they use their blessed attribute of free thinking.
Everyone has an agenda. His just happens to piss you off. I'm all for a good debate, but I see this also veering into the side of your opinion running unopposed. I guess the question really is, what, as an individual, can you do about it? |

I doubt people believe every word 100%. But it brings eyes somewhere they shouldn't be. And maybe it's not a majority, but as I said... with the absence of opposition, many people will listen. And yes, it was a blanket statement. And sure... it's probably an exaggeration. But the reason I made such blanket statement is b/c we already know that the education system in the US is below average. Yet, in 2005, High School graduation rates were < 69%. It's painful to see in my opinion.
And I don't expect my opinion to go unopposed. I expect discussion. And of course it's not going unopposed b/c I expressing my opinions in opposition to someone else's. So by definition, my opinion is already opposed. Is it opposed by anyone on this site... maybe... maybe not. But it is opposed.
And I, as an individual, can do what I am doing. Try to get word out there that this man is wrong. He is trying to convince people that games like counterstrike "train" people to be killers.

I post on 3 sites regularly and record a podcast with 2 other intelligent gamers. I, as an individual, can get this information out to as many people as I can and hope it gets noticed. |

The problem is that there isn't a videogame voice out there in popular TV, look at what FOX did when they had somebody on that knew what they were talking about, they cut him short and ignored everything he said, so its not like Joe Public is gonna listen to a gamer over someone who supposedly has the distinction of being a lawyer.
Also, FOX news is the only place the guy gets a voice, as far as I've seen recently, if the majority of America believe what they see on that channel, then I really do worry what that has in store for the rest of the world considering the power America has as a nation. |
