"Nikkei Business Daily reported that Nintendo plans to launch a new model of Nintendo DS which can take pictures, play music and have advanced wireless functions by the end of the year. Monex Securities also reported that the new model will also have a larger LCD screen and a built-in SD card slot, allowing you to read data from Wii. The price of the new machine is expected to be below 20,000 yen (US$189), compared with 16,800 yen for the current model. Nintendo has not confirmed this info."
Sounds good but I just got mine back from Nintendo (my ten month checkup to keep the warranty going) and I still have my Pokemon DS Lite in the box.
my girl = pink DS
me = black DS (with Pokemon DS in reserve)
oldest son = blue/black Brain Age DS
youngest son = Guitar Hero DS
and I was gonna get my stepdaughter the crystal pink DS for XMas. Maybe I'll get this one if it's out by then.
I guess we're the DS family. LOL |

I'm really sick of Nintendo/Sony doing this. They keep rereleasing systems over and over. But at least Sony adds function without taking function away.
They're removing the GBA slot... ok fine... So basically what you're saying is ... all you people that were dumb enough to buy Guitar Hero: On Tour... screw you... your peripheral won't work anymore.
Those of you that bought the "wheel" peripheral for Space Invaders or Arkanoid... sorry... that won't work either.
SD slot... How long before that gets exploited.
Camera... COOL... 0.3Mpixels... Lame.

You had to expect this tho, it's like the new PSP (or releasing new colors every three months). It's just to boost sales. I was more upset about having the GBA port yet not having the link cable port than losing the GBA port now tho. Mainly because who the hell ever used the link cable anyway. I'll probably get mine for XMas 2009, I just sent in my DS for it's "annual checkup" (just say one of the buttons are faulty and they'lllook it over and renew your year-long warranty whether they find anything or not) so I'm good for another year. Then I do have that Pokemon DS still in the box as a backup (as I have lost both of my previous DS's and lost & damaged my previous two GBAs). |

Hmmm, cool.. I was right to think they'd go for another version of this a year ago when I kept telling my coworkers ''bet ya that Nintendo will make another one of these DS things....'' and they were laughing haha.
I was wrong on one thing tho, doesn't seem like they opted for a ''tank'' version of the DS, hell, it just looks more fragile then the previous DS. No more GBA? eh, I guess we can all live with that. Who's NOT gonna use the SD slot for emulators here? Come on, let's be honest.
One question tho, why is the camera pointing on the OUTSIDE of the screen?
For 189$ I'd expect to have something better then a built-in .3 megapixel camera. Didn't even know such technology existed - let alone ever even existed - in the first place in the world of digital capture. Not to mention: big question here... why is it on the OUTSIDE? Wouldn't a videocam be on the inside of the... o wait, lemme guess, it's not for that... it... just... takes pics I guess.
Now, I'm still hoping for a ''heavy duty'' DS. I guess I'll have to cross my fingers for the NEXT one.
Laugh all you want! I may be wrong for the ''heavy duty'' part... but trust me, I wouldn't be surprised they come up with yet another one in a year or 2... maybe with an extra feature! something like... a DS2 perhaps they'd call it, which would technically speaking, be twice the power of a DS but not seem to ''show it'' much BUT this time would have a... 1.3 megapixel WEBCAM *crowd goes wild*, making all of it (for them at least) be a good enough reason for them to sell it around 210$ ;p
and THEY were right about one thing..
