Maybe I'm blind and I missed a really obvious topic, but I was interested in hearing what other people have experienced with this game. I believe only two people I know have played this game. One of them went on to become extremely addicted to it, the other went on to playing WoW and got addicted to that.
As HBO is currently doing Star Wars Month, my interest in the game has been revitalized. To be honest, though, my only real interest in playing would be to become a jedi. And I believe that involves racking up hundreds of hours of gameplay. Can anybody shed some light on this? |

Yup, I'm your man.
I played this game for several months, and enjoyed the hell out of it. This was before they revamped combat entirely, two or three times, I'm not sure which. The best part about it, was how flexible the social aspects were, social and economic. But now, nobody plays it; so don't expect to see much socializing with people more than the ones who are still gripping onto the shred of hope that they're accomplishing something in their mom's basement. That means no more cantinas, desserted towns, no more shops or malls.
Although, now there's space combat, so you can chill with your pals in your own cruiser and party down in space.. not to mention I really digged the new combat system, it was an over the shoulder kind of point and click thing... a little more fun that auto-attack, I think.
Oh yeah, and now you can play as jedi as a playable class.. Although, given the era, I think they should have only permitted a handful of jedi throughout any server, so they could keep their lives in secret... and the force could move on to another character.
But now, if you wanna play a jedi it's your lucky day because they're everywhere.
I do confess, the best feelings I got from a game were in SWG, but I ran a guild and a town and was a total badass smuggler. |

So the changes in gameplay really killed off that many of the people who played it?
What was it like before vs after that caused so many people to just drop out from playing?
I'd read on message boards about the changing of the gameplay system and people being unhappy about it... but i didnt think it had bred any sort of mass extinction. |

I played a little before the change and some after. It was a huge difference and I'd say they lost around 90% of the players as every player created town I found was empty.
There might be a huge number of Star Wars fans out there, but even the most hardcore of them would have to have nothing better to do in order to stick with something they don't like "just because it's Star Wars".
Never fear, though. There are rumors going around that SWG is being killed off at Lucasarts request and that they have licensed someone else to make a new (better) Star Wars MMO. |

Wow... sounds like things must've been pretty bad in the "improved" version for such a huge number to drop out. And if a large majority of those in the game ARE jedi, well that takes some of the fun out of that.
I wouldn't mind a new one. Especially if the gameplay was done in such a way that people would acutally be attracted to the game. The problem of the Jedi question would still remain. Make it impossible to be a jedi, you probably lose some portion of your audience. Make it too easy, and people who had played SWG may have gripes about it.
I would suggest the manufacturers create a probability system in the character creation where 1 out of however many characters created is created with Force Sensitivity, and thus the ability to become a jedi. |

Well I got news for all of you pre-cu(thats pre combat update) fans, there is a website SwgEmu.com, that is solely responsible for recreating what SOE destroyed. NGE is not the way to go, pre-cu is! Now the game isn't fully completed but there are classes implemented and a combat system along with a few planets(all i think actually) As for JEDI, they aren't in the game at the moment but the grind will also be implemented soon as the devs complete their more important tasks. A server is up but its only a test center so dont get too attached to your characters as wipes may occur. If you do decide to join you must have a full retail copy of swg(meaning you went out and bought it from a store) and to connect just follow SwgEmu.com intructions basically download the file launchpad enhanced if you want the easy way or follow their manual guide. Thats bought the main reason of my return, to give my info on these iconic games, the other is about WoW and a free server under its respected forum/sub forum |

This just fellow SWG Pre-Cu players. SWG EMU has announced their plans to host an official server but what is truly important is that they are making preparations to host a second server for test their original server, TC: NOVA is your quintessential test center, no grinding, just instant mastered professions and Blue frogs(vendors that give you items and the alike) for testing.. But their second server, TC: Sun Crusher will be a playable test center and when the game is complete and ready for release it will be whiped and used as their official server.. There will be less wipes on this TC as people will be required to grind out their chosen professions as it was intended and all new content will be for the most part 100% bug free. being first test on NOVA and then implemented to Sun Crusher. Head to swgemu.com to register and join the fun! I am playing a trandoshan nbamed Patriarch.. Hit me up when in game.. I'm currently on NOVA still as Sun Crusher isn't hosted just yet but my name will follow over to that new server. Later! |

I play it, obviously, from the post above yours lol. Unlike most MMOs this one has no magic for one, medics must go OUT and get supplies to made the medicine to heal damage or tend wounds. This game is very dependent on player interaction and has it's own economy in the sense the PLAYERS make everything and it has a sandbox option towards classes/professions. This means you can be a doctor, swordsman and maybe one other master profession. 3 is the limit except in the case of hybrids or you can be a jack of all trades and master at none if you prefer and the best part is if you get bored you can change professions but you'll just have to grind everything all over again.
Down side is that it is no longer like that description above.. The NGE or new game enhancement, change the entire game making from a choice between 32 professions to 9 iconic professions.. including jedi from the start.. in the Pre-CU or pre combat update(an "fix" to some problems a few months before NGE) you had to unlock your force sensitive character.
Needed some more instances if you will, like a "dungeon" but in star wars appeal. Basically some more content. Now there is an up-side to all this if you read my post(s) above you, you'll get information on a web site dedicated to creating a free emulator of Pre-CU |
