Chatting just for chatting.

This has come as an annoyance to me as I get more and more people on my contact list. As soon as I hop on, I get the same two or three guys starting this up:

Him: Hi.
Me: Hi.
Him: What's up?
Me: (general bla-bla) You?
Him: (general bla-bla)

And that's all. They had absolutely nothing interesting to say, but they IM anyways.

If you're gonna see me chatting, it'll be because I have an idea of what I wanna talk about right from the start. Most of my contacts will tell you: I begin almost every IM chat by either a specific question or some statement (news, etc.) I don't see IMing done any other way - especially the obnoxious "Hi what's up" that everyone says when they're bored.

I just don't get it...

I agree. Don't talk to me unless you have something meaning full to talk about. The exceptions to that is of course Doot (Who I usually always have an IM window open for so we can talk about the site... Go figure) and Skibirdi (Who is by default granted the personal right to say just "Hi, What's up"

Anyway, I'm way to busy at work for all the general blah blah.

I try to make time for chit chat but I get so distracted all the time by things. Most the time if my IM is up I'm still running about doing things. I can't just veg in front of the computer all day with so much to do. But I do try to make the effort to say hello.

But I see where you guys are coming from. I have one person who does this.

Him: Yo!
Me: Yo What's up?
then nothing.

I think that it is also depend of you're interest about others. If you want to know them you'll go talking to them just to know them better. Without any other reason. You'll ask them a few questions and will share you're interest. If you're not interest to know someone or are annoyed by them, chance are you won't have anything to say or ask them. Poeple also know when you're not interest. Somes will try again and again keep trying and other will give up. Personally, I'll give up because I' m persuade that to continue will only lead to annoyed both of us.

In the ex given by Doot... yeah... sound funny for me. Some of my friends on chat just let me a little " hello" to show they saw me and think of me but have nothing else t say and it's ok. I'm just glad they let a little hello by the way.^^

Tenshiai you are such a White Mage ... don't ask! Well, it's the first thing that crossed my mind as I read your post.

I agree with everyone although I do end up, more often then I should, being the person droping a ''hi what's up yo heyhey'' and either 1) have nothing to say really, I just am bored at work 2) end up delaying the convo at random points (usually the begining) cause I end up busy at work right when I thought I could have time to chat -_-

So to all of you out there ...

I come to write a quick PM and I see my number #1 annoyance.

It's the main reason I stopped IM'ing people, for two reasons really

#1 they're at work and I don't like bothering them
#2 I don't really have much to talk about unless I haven't talked to them in a very long time.

I freaking freaking freaking hate when people do this

Then nothing. I have two people who do this and it makes me wanna scream. Or block them for all eternity. >_<

I'm so glad I only have 5 contacts anymore and changed my SN. It's just horrible otherwise.

Mine was nobody on this site. I do try and talk to people who IM me. I'm a social creature by nature but even still. I get warm fuzzies when people say hello and chit chat for a little bit.
