This ALWAYS happens at school. Whenever I have a question for the teacher, I am greeted with the following reply.

  • "I explained it in class."
  • "That's a rudimentary concept."
  • "That's explained in the book."
  • "This is part of your exercises."

And then they begin explaining. But before that, they always feel the need to introduce me to the fact that my question is absolutely fucking stupid and they ALWAYS try to make me look like an idiot. And then they wonder why I can't get tests right. FUCK YOU!!!

The dumbest question is always the one not asked.

Yes, but the teachers whould not be trying to make the students feel stupid when they do decide to ask questions. Teach should be realizing... if soemone's asking about "elementary concepts" all the time, it might be a flaw in your teaching method.

Why not use the exercises, then, as the springboard for your questioning, Shuri, so that the idiot doesn't have much of an excuse to belittle you for asking questions?

Because usually, I have a prob understanding a certain concept, not a particular exercise.

Perfect the art of the flippant answer.

"We discussed it in class."
"Yeah, but you're boring and no one was listening. Explain it again?"

"This is a rudimentary concept."
"And this a rudimentary course, so the two fit together quite nicely. Explain it."

"That's explained in the book."
"Right, but if I take the time to look it up now, I won't be listening to you drone, and will then get something else confused. Explain it to me?"

"This is part of your exercises."
"Right, well you can tell just by looking that I don't excercise. How's about you explain it instead?"

...On second thought...Maybe not.

My advice is not to let it get to you, and to be persistent. They can only make you feel stupid if you let them.

Hmm. Okay. The exercises aren't a problem, but the concepts are. It sounds more and more like a method problem to me. Are there others having conceptual difficulties too? Because if there are, you can gang up on the fool and really aggravate him.
