Something of a touchy subject for me right now because I just had to put my 16 year old yellow Labrador (named Polly, the sweetest dog in the whole wide world) to sleep yesterday. |
Noooo! Not Polly! I knew Polly, and I must say that she was, in fact, the sweetest dog I have ever known. She will be terribly missed.
Yes, bad things do happen to people all the time, and there may be more shelters for animals than there are for people, but the problem is that people just neglect animals and don't give them the respect to life that they deserve. Another horrid story on that website was about some sick bastard who killed 93 ferrets by injecting them with bleach. Honestly, what the hell could be going through people's minds to think that they are so far superior to animals that they can justify this behavior and get off by it.
Ya know what? I really don't think that we, as humans, have as much of a claim to life as animals do. We are the only species on earth who do things out of malice. No animal ever acts maliciously or in immoral ways. That's why this is such a travesty.
I have no remorse for these individuals, just as they have no remorse for the lives that they take. |

That may be but we are also the only species to act out of love and compassion, you can’t just name the negative aspects of humanity and ignore the positive ones. You wont see a lion decide not to kill because it feels bad. Animals may not have malice but they sure as hell have no compasion either. |

As far as I have experienced, dogs show their owner's love and compassion. And if anyone has a ferret, they know that ferrets show love as well. I'm not sure about cats because I've never owned one, but I'm sure that cats are the same way.
Lions, and other predatory animals, kill for food and in defense. It's not a matter of not having compassion. If a lion kills another animal, its to eat. If it kills a person, its because it felt threatened. We behave the same way. We kill for food, or in defense. Anything outside of that is unjustified, and as humans, we are the only ones capable of this type of killing for sport. It's because humans have developed a sense of superiority over animals which makes man believe he is God, and can do whatever he wants. |

Your dog or your ferret does not love you, animals show affection. Love is a entirely human concept that they have no way to comprehend. Dogs treat humans as a higher up in their pack structure. What you are doing is projecting your feelings towards the animals on the animals themselves.
And yes you are right about lions killing for food, but they certainly don’t seem to feel bad about it, there is even evidence that they enjoy the killing to some degree.
General you are right about elephants though, and I would Imagine dolphins are the same, but they are more the exception than the rule.
Another interesting thing about elephants for no reason is that the matriarch has been known to lead the heard to watering holes not used in generations during times of drought |

Whether or not they show affection or love or whatever, its the same basic premise in that animals project positive aspects, and really don't project negative ones. Whether or not a lion feels enjoyment while it is killing something is irrelevant, as a lion may be the exception to this rule, and regardless of what they feel, a lion will not kill you "just because", whereas some humans do. So whose worse? |

Ok yes affection and love are similar, but they are not anywhere near the same thing. I would run into a burning building to save some one, or even one of my pets. That is an example of the fundamental difference between the two. Love is an unexplainable human benevolence that goes beyond any label you can think of. But all you want to talk about is the .001% of people who are violent and say that animals are so much better than humans. Humans are capable of so much more good than any animal could ever possibly be, but yes we are also capable of more evil than any animal. But you cannot ignore the good in humanity. I am sure that you yourself are a good person, so I don’t see why you insist humans are bad.
Also humans evolved from, and are predatory animals. So it is only natural that there are some predatory tendencies built into every human.
And many animals will kill you just for intruding on their territory, which is a pretty "just because" reason to kill. |

-It's not "just because". It's because they are threatened, and instinct takes over.
-There have been documented examples of animals risking their own lives to save their owners'.
-Unfortunately, its the .001% of anything that causes it to go sour. People do not remember the good, only the bad. One bad apple spoils the rest.
-Humans ARE more capable of good, but that is because we are more intelligent beings. As a result, we are also capable of 'bad' period, whereas animals are not.
-There is good in humanity. Unfortunately there is not enough so that there is still immorality.
-'Predatory' and 'malice' are two completely different concepts. |

Yes you are right, animals are not capable of bad because they have no way to grasp the concept of it, but they are equally incapable of good. They are like you said completely reliant on instinct.
I would be willing to bet if you slapped some intelligence on any predatory animal you would get much the same result as humans. My theory is that our way of life has no way of catering to our predatory instincts, so a select few are unable to deal with this and act with malice.
But this has gotten way off topic so,
Animal abusers suck ass.
I'm out. |
