Well guys, let's try this again. Like I said before I'm looking for advice on getting a new PC, in particular having one custom built. I've been doing some research and found a couple of promising sites...
PC's For Everyone
IBuyPower
So, I need some advice....
1. If anyone knows of any particularly good custom built pc sites, or local places in the Atlanta, GA area, please post them here and I will look into them. Also, if you know of any particularly bad ones that I should stay away from, post them as well.
2. If anyone has any prior experiences with these or other custom built sites mentioned, please post your experiences and reviews so I can make an educated choice.
3. Any advice/how-to information on PC Building and transferring data between two hard drives would also be much appreciated.
Oh, and AzV, please re-post the link you posted before the server deleted my topic. Thanks.
Thanks again guys!! *Thwacks Evil Hosting Server* |

There ya go.
And the two hard drive thing is kinda easy..If ya keep yer old comp and buy the new one and just want yer old info on yer new comp then XP has a one time comp transfer thingy where you hook up the comp either with firewire or USB and it sends all the data over.
Failing that put the old HD in the new comp and remove the master pin setting and move it to slave then hook it up and yer new HD will control yer OS and your Slave drive will only access when ya want it to. Failing to un-master the drive may cause the new comp to run your old OS. |

I would love nothing more than to have an Alienware computer...Only problem is that for some reason it takes them like $4000 to make a comp I can make for $1500...Is their special case and lighted fans and wire REALLY worth $2500?
Plus the compy I wanna make is refrigerated...NOT fan cooled..NOT liquid cooled...This bastard has a freakin R-12 (Freon that is ozone friendly) pump! It'll keep me processor AND soda cool...hehehe |

Oh yeah, I'd love an Alienware but there's no way I can go spend that much ><. Hoth, the site you posted looks really promising. I think they may be the cheapest I've seen yet. Here's what I'm currently eyeing from them...
P4-3.0G (1M /800FSB, Hyper Treading, retail box w/fan)---------$1039.99
ASUS P4C800 E Deluxe Intel 875P, S ATA & 133 Raid, 6 USB , 1394, ATX MB
1GB DDR400 PC-3200 Kingston (Dual DDR400, 2X512MB, Major Brand)
200GB SATA ATA150 8M buffer 7200RPM ATA100 UIDE HDD
1.44 Samsung FDD
ATI Radeon 9200SE 128MB AGP w/S video & TV-out video card
NEC 8X DVD -RW / + RW DVD Burner // 3D Sound 6 Channel
10-100-1000 Network
Enlight 72500 Mid-tower atx case w/2 fans & 2 USB front( retail @ $60 )
*** Add $ 32.99 to add a 16x Lite-On DVD drive w/software.
Not bad at all really, pretty much everything I'm looking for at just over a grand. No shipping since they're local, can just pick it up. Thanks a bunch Hoth! I may seriously go with them.
I appreciate all the help you guys! If anyone has anything else to add, please do though. |

Although Alienware have extremely good customer service im gonna have to agree with everyone and say It's probably not worth 4k bucks.
Better off getting some local place to hook you up. |

Yeah, but also like Alienware, Falcon is just too overpriced... at least for my budget >_<. Hoth gave me a glowing review of gimcomputers. Unless someone finds something better for roughly the same price, I'm probably going with them. From everywhere I've seen, it looks like they have the most bang for the buck. The fact that its local is also nice, saves me on shipping (of course I'll have to pay tax ><) Though, its still not set in stone, so if anyone stumbles across anywhere else, feel free to post it. Thanks so much for all the help!! |
