I just found out that one of the people on my livejournal friends list has lukemia.
While that's a bit of a shock by itself, one of her friends has made a request for some cards or writings to be sent to her while she's in the hospital. I'd like to do something, but I'm not really sure what I could write about or send.
I figured the PO people would probably have a clue. Suggestions, please? |

Well I personally don't always agree with showering with gifts and stuff because sometimes it feels to the patients that you are sort of scared and avoiding them.
Something I have noticed from alot of my terminal patients is that they like simplicity. maybe a card then if possible visit or call and just be the same you are as always

Well, visit's a bit hard since she's in the UK and I'm Stateside. I'd send her a card, but I'm not sure what the rates are on international postage, and whether she'd get it in the hospital. So I'm at a bit of a loss what to do... |

I've heard that air mail postage is 80 cents...but don't quote me on that. Perhaps you can send the card to her friend, and she can give it to her? |

It's like Wok said: simplicity is the key. You don't have to clutter up a card with a lot of fancy words or anything like that, just tell them how you feel, that you wish them a speedy recovery, that you'd be sad to see them go, whatever is in your heart. They will understand what you mean.

Well, since I broached the subject, I figure it deserves it's final update.
It's become a moot point. I did send something off, which I hope she received, but today, I found out that she had passed on to the afterlife. Thanks for the advice, people. And now, rest in peace, Selena. |
