Hopefully I'm not the only one, but it seems on a daily basis I get more and more afraid to go out by myself anywhere anymore. I mean, I hate the news, and hearing all the horrible stuff going on out in the world.

Lately, all over the news has been the story about Jessica Lunsford, and the trial of her murderer/kidnapper/rapist/etc.

Today he was found guilty on all counts. I am so glad to hear this, because I have been steadily losing faith in the justice system today...

And while I'm glad that hte guy will be in jail until his death, be it natural or state imposed...I'm still so sad for this little girl and her family, and I dont even know them. I have been tearing up all day.

Long story short, if you dont know the story, this asshole, kidnapped her from her home, took her back to his home, which was about 150 yards from where she lived. He proceeded to rape her, multiple times I believe, upon other torture, but he never physicially killed her...but instead decided when he was done with her, to put her in 2 plastic trash bags, and bury her behind his trailer, alive...and she suffocated to death...her fingers were poking through the trashbags as she had tried to get herself free.

My heart breaks everytime I think about that little girls terror. And I guess it touches me a little more closely since I was sexually abused as a kid, and know the horrors to an extent of what I'm sure she experienced. This kind of story shows up on a daily basis, and it scares the shit out of me. Scares me for my friends who have or are having kids, scares me for whenever i may someday have kids.

I just dont know what to think, or how to handle this sadness that I feel for this little girl, that I never even knew. I get so depressed everytime I hear one of these damn stories, because the kids are so helpless. Its horrible. This is why i could never be on a case that involved something like this, because I dont think any sex offenders should ever get out of jail for abusing anyone, let alone helpless children! I get angry, sad, and frustrated all at once.

Meh, I just had to rant. Hopefully I'm not the only person who gets this way, but even if I am, oh well. I guess I'm just overly sensitive to this kind of news. /shrug

The depravities mankind is capable of are limitless and worrisome. And yet, he has been judged for his crimes and justice, as best it can be meted by human hands, has been done. Here's to hoping that everything he's done haunts him for the rest of the time his prisonmates see fit to allow him to remain on this mortal coil.

I've never had any experience of any kind with this sort of thing.

I will, however, admit that nothing in this world terrifies me more than the idea of rape. The sort of mental scarring that leaves on a person..the violation...yeah. S'why the Reavers on Firefly horrify me so much.

I'm glad this guy is getting part of what he deserves, though. Perhaps he'll get a taste of his own medicine from the guys in the prison, no?

I have my own opinions about how people like this should be dealt with. However, in the interest of not getting people upset over political differences I will decline to go into the details. Suffice to say, I would deal with rapists and murderers in a slightly more harsh manner.

I do however take comfort in the fact that, for every day you hear about 20 depraved maniacs, there are 1,000 good hearted people doing the right thing you never hear about. It's sad that we only focus on the wrong and often fail to praise the right. It's sad that people like this sick F*** get all the spotlight.

At least the prisons in your country dont treat their inmates like royalty (as far as I'm aware). If he were in a british prison, he'd have digital tv and god knows what else in his cell! He'd also be secluded from the other inmates to prevent any harm coming to him, look at Ian Huntley!

Its a horrible and sad world we live in, Britain's still healing from Dunblaine in 1996, the Holly and Jessica murders (commited by Ian Huntley) and even as far back as James Bulger in 1993 (a 3 year old who was lured away from his mum in a shopping centre by two ten year old boys who then murdered him).

I'm not speaking about America here, but with Britain, and with these cases in mind, I don't see why the death penalty and hanging were abolished. Instead, they get a term in prison, and then released if they behave with a new identity and rehab. Plus they can plead insanity and have their term greatly reduced, and so so many of them manage to swing that one its ridiculous.

Closest being .17 miles from my address to teh farthest listed at 7.94 miles.

Within a 8 mile radius of my apartment, there are 387 registered offenders! And I'm supposed to feel safe for myself, or children?
