Now don't go getting your Sony branded underoos in a twist - I happened to inherit the PSP as Chris' hand-me-down as he wanted the red God of War version. Still doesn't change the way I view Sony and their tactics much like you are still assured to use M$ on your computer. I won't even touch on how much chastising Chris, Alex, Ryan and I received from 2/3 of Camp InDis for playing Monster Hunter in the first place, but I digress. 
I think $300 is still a large chunk of change to toss down on something we'd primarily be using for adhoc party for a handheld as there still aren't enough games of interest unless you include Chris' desire to play Ninja Gaiden 2 - oh wait - he already played that on 360 a year ago. Plus we already have a blu-ray drive in our media center (a mere fraction of the cost of a PS3 even today) so there's a redundancy to any "but it has blu-ray" argument.
We've probably gotten more play (gaming, netflix, etc.) out of the 360 than everyone on their PS3 combined - which coincidentally we paid the same price for years ago as the PS3 is going for as of a month ago. |
Has nothing to do with "Sony Undroos" ... Has to do with misdirected hate flinging... I defend what needs defending. If someone came in here and called the 360 a doorstop ... I would defend it too... I've done it before on other forums. You call the PS3 a door stop... yet how much time have you actually given to one. You seem to just have a sheer hatred for Sony lately... ever since the release of the PSP. Have you played any of the exclusives that Sony has? You say the only thing you would use is adhoc party... but I'm sure there are quite a few exclusives that you and/or Chris would enjoy.
I'm glad you love your 360... But what tactics are you speaking of when it comes to Sony. Having a high priced system. If you use everything the PS3 is built for... it has always been more value for the money ... even when it was $600. What about MS Tactics? What MS is doing with things like Live is pretty amazing. PSN still has a long way to go before they catch up. Netflix is a great addition for people that don't have it available via Tivo already. However what about MS raping consumers in the bum with the prices of their accessories? At launch... the PS3 was still easily a better deal than the 360 with all the accessories to get it up to the PS3s level. Sure... you had a "choice" of what you wanted with the 360... but if you decided that you DID want to add the functionality... get ready to spend a ton. Or how they have the least reliable video game hardware in console history?
How about being the ONLY system on the market (including portable systems) to not include wifi?
And how about now... PS3 for $300 is a SIGNIFICANTLY better deal than a $300 360. When MS was questions about why they aren't including Wifi with the system, the said "it has always been about offering the consumer a choice." So ... what ... now they are offering the consumer to spend another $100 on a function that is included in the competitor system?
To Each their own... my point is that you may not have a desire for a PS3 outside of adhoc party... but many other gamers use it for everything it is built for and that makes it worth the price of admission. You may not think so, but many others feel differently.
So if you're going to call out one hardware maker... be consistent.
Yes... Sony had a high priced system... and they were a bunch of arrogant asses at the start. That's why there have been so many changes as of late.
And even with those changes... they are still doing stupid ass things... like pricing the PSP Go! at $250... Are they retarded... well... yes! I'll call their asses out all day on crap like that
But MS has just as bad tactics as anyone if not worse. A 120G Hard drive for $150. A proprietary wireless adapter for $100 when the PS3 has it included at the same price? The Red Ring of Death fiasco. Leaving out a $.50 piece of rubber at the expensive of everyone's games getting scratched to hell if the machine is touched during play?
Sure... people like us may not need to spend money on crap like that b/c we know how to get around it... but the average consumer gets raped in the bum. As you did once already... you mention doorstop... How's that HD-DVD player for the 360? You may not have paid $200 for it... but it's still pretty pointless right now and it was obvious that they only put it out as a stopgap to make it harder for Blu-ray to take it's place as the next generation video disc.
And Nintendo's tactics aren't angelic either right now...
They are still selling their 2 Gamecubes duct taped together for $250.
They also have the most expensive controller right now...
$40 for the Wii-mote, $20 for the Nunchuck (which already makes them the most expensive) now add another $20 for Wii Motion "what it should have been in the first place." $80 for a controller... then throw in all the other peripherals they have people buy... the Balance Board and ... just b/c they need another way to get money from you... the "Vitality Sensor" ... really?
And as far as how much time you put into your 360... I could say something similar about the PS3. I use it for Games... Blu-ray and DVDs since it's one of the best up-scaling DVD players out there right now. That doesn't even include if you have it set up as a media server which you can access from anywhere with an internet connection with your PSP.
360 I use for games... that's it. And as it is... it's been close to 3 weeks since I even turned the thing on. Shadow Complex was the first game I bought and actually put a good amount of time into on my 360 since ... say ... Fallout 3.
So again... to each their own. Point is that all 3 companies have their fair share of craptastic tactics... so why deny yourself the enjoyment of what any of them have to offer? ... And why try to publicly shoot one down in front of people you know have spent money on one?
There's just no real need for it besides trying to make others feel bad about their purchase or trying to justify why you haven't purchased one... and either way... still no real need for it. |

I did not attack you in my first post about doorstops - only voicing my opinion about PS3 - and it wasn't until you flared up that I continued any retort because you made it personal about my opinion changing because of the PSP - which it hasn't. There are plenty of points you made in your post that have justified rebuttals but it's pointless.
If you want to continue on with this I'll happily kowtow to your superior video game knowledge, that is, if you would like me to go against your quote above. |

What I said was not meant to be an attack... I apologize if it felt that way... but it was more of an observation in defense of your "attack."
The reason for my post that you considered an attack is b/c the way you state your opinion about the PS3 makes it sound like it's not worth buying for anyone, and like you're belittling anyone who has purchased one.
This may not be your intention, but that's why I made my short defense in the first place... b/c your comment seemed like an attack to anyone who had bought a PS3.
So... I was just making an observation and trying to show that some of the things that you say to be funny... are not always taken that way.
You're welcome to respond to whatever you want... My post above is just to show that all companies do what they do to make money and Sony isn't the only one with "tactics" that people don't agree with.

Look - my original comment about doorstops was my personal opinion about the system and the lack of use it will see in my household to justify the price tag. If my intention by my comment was to belittle consumers of Sony products I'd hope you know by now I wouldn't pull any punches. I'd just say it outright, but I didn't.
If anyone read into my statement as an "attack" then that is their own opinion acting sensitively to the comment and reading far more into it than it merits.
I understand you feel the need to "defend what needs defending" but I'm sure an 88.7 billion dollar company will be just fine. |

Possibly. Or maybe after previous times where this type of thing has happened and I've brushed it off... This time was more curiosity as to your reasoning for the hate throwing.
