Bad drivers - Is it just me or what?

OK, let me set the scene for you:
I'm driving on a one lane road. Traffic is going like 20 miles an hour (it's a 45mph street) but it's fairly mid morning so I guess there's people going to work or something. Now we hit a turn so I can see up ahead to the front of the pack (4 cars ahead of me) and what do I see? There's abso-fucking-lutely NOTHING in front of the lead car for maybe 50 feet! Now I'm stunned as Hell as to why we're all going so slowly so I do what we all would...pull over into the oncoming traffic lane and floor it up to the front past the other cars ("Professional driver on closed course. Don't attempt this at home"). The lead car is some 40-year old bitch talking on a cell phone! I couldn't believe it. I was stuck in it for maybe 5 minutes but I know she was slowing everyone else down for longer than that. So I roar past her and she doesn't even glance my way. And the kicker? No one even honks at her or nothing! Toto, I am NOT in New York anymore.
I just leave them all and go about my business but it's still maybe a mile or so to where I turn and never ever does anyone catch me. THEY'RE ALL STILL FOLLOWING HER AT 20 MPH!!! What fuckin' assholes!

So is it me or what? Maybe I still have too much "big city" left in me for these local yokels but damn...

and in a slightly related note this question came to me the other day.

Who is dumber? I'm sitting at a corner and the car in front of me is not moving (we can make right turns on red here). I give them the polite 3 seconds (that's a long time to me) before I hit the horn on them. Still they sit with no turn. I mean, there are some cars coming but it's a Dodge Neon in front of me. Those with one know how small they are and how quick they can get into traffic. I could have pulled in easily. FINALLY they make the turn. Now here's the part. When I turn in behind them I race up and slow down next to them, looking over with the "What the fuck?" look. Now I don't know what I expected them to say/do so I had to think to myself "Who is dumber?" Them, for being a non-driving asshole, or me, for expecting them to be something other than a non-driving asshole.

Word of warning: If you're ever driving in Las Cruces and you get nudged by a burgundy Ford Contour after doing something stupid in your car...it's me. Best bet, keep driving.

While I agree with ya that drivers do suck I do haveta say that you honking at people accomplishes nothing. As you've experienced the person in the other car couldn't give a damn that you found a pressure switch on yer steering wheel.

I myself when I get honked at make it my DUTY to cause the honker PAIN AND MISERY. So I myself more than likey wouldn't have turned till the green light was half over. That, or get out of my car and walk back to ask you if you had a problem.

Seriously, the WORST invention ever was the damn car horn. If it was up to me when you press the horn it would cut off your stereo and double the sound you put out and put it into your cars interior so that you have a concequence for using the damn thing.

While I've never been one to sit back and let an opening go to waste or actually drive under, let alone the actual, speed limit. I myself can't STAND being honked at.

Like when I'm at the mall and I put my things away and get into my car and am looking for a CD to put in before I go and someone honks at me cause they want my space I simply get out of my car..Lock the door...And go back into the mall to do some more shopping I didn't plan on doing before. If I'm with my smoker friend (Which is like 99% of the time) I tell him to go have another smoke and we just sit on my trunk while he lights of and polishes one off.

ahh, for only being a driver for about 4 or 5 weeks, i have to say, that there are a couple of things that bug me, like when people rush me. Listen to this:

Im driving on a 25 mile an hour road, and im going 30. I get some chevy excursion right behind me on my bumper. As soon as i put on my turn signal, they floor it to probably around 60, and fly right by me on the wrong side of teh road. now let i mind you, this is on a sunday at 8 oclock...so WHAT THE HELL is his RUSH!!!

Personally, i hate it when people pull what Razer pulled on that cell phoner, but in that case, i would have possibly been pushed to that extent.

the funny thing about this, is that my bro drives a dodge Neon, and he did that one day, and got the people behind him pissed. what did he say when i asked him why he was doing it:

"Well, im doing this because i dont have to make a right turn on red...i do have the option, but i dont have to."

Atlanta = WORST DRIVERS.

Not only are they rude, abnoxious, selfish folk, but one almosy killed me today.

I was driving on a road behind my work and the lady in a big white van pulls over on this shoulder in front of me, so I continue on only to be side swiped by her as I am passing her. Now she didn't pull off for an emergency or anything. She was just that dang stupid and guess what else, ON HER CELLPHONE!

We have people here who don't understand the rules of the road. Like people going 40MPH in the fastlane on the highway and WON'T get out of the way of faster traffic. And instead of passing on the right like a buttmunch, you wait patiently for them to get a clue which never happens. Then of course when you go to pass them, they speed up! And this is severe particular behavior of SUV drivers as well. It's like in the Georgia manual it says Congratulations! You own and SUV you are now entitle to drive like a moron!

Yes, GA DOES have some horrible drivers but I think it's cause the light system sux too. I can vouch for Doot in the regard that she is a good driver but I swear to GOD she attracts morons like a moth to the flame. I was riding with her for like one week and I've never been more scared for my life then I was during that time.

While she avoided danger like the plague it kept pounding on her like a 300 pound Prisoner named Bubba. At least she reassured me that I wasn't gonna die every 5 minutes but that was like the first time I put my seatbelt on in 10 years of my OWN free will.

In AZ drivers are rude as all hell but we ALL know it including the rude people so it's expected and we all drive better because EVERYONE in AZ KNOWS that NO ONE can drive competently. So in effect we're all better drivers cause we're morons but we understand we're morons.

haha....thats funny....I have lived in georgia all my life so i really have nothing to compare it with, but my parents and I drive the same way....so I see nothing wrong with it...Even though once you think about it I bet the other people are like gah what ass holes...

Ahh...so Tobs already shared with you one of the many behaviors I have when I'm driving. I think for the most part, I'm a good driver. I tend to drive a little fast (as that cop today can vouche... :blush:), but all in all, nothing dangerous, and I'm fairly courteous. What I really can't stand is people rushing me. I, like Az, make it my personal business to switch into a$$hole mode and torment people who honk at me, or do outright stupid crap to me while I'm driving. We in Westport, CT (my hometown) have not just bad drivers, but bad drivers who insist on buying SUVs (to make everyone else's life worse) and expensive cars (as if to say "go ahead and hit my car...I can afford better lawyers than you..."). They "a$$hole pass", that is, go into the oncoming traffic land and pass you, usually when you're driving the speed limit or slightly higher, and that pisses me off to no end. But what really bakes my noodle (hehe) is when I'm going to make a left turn, and the bastards go into the bike lane to pass me on the right. I would understand if I have to sit and wait for a while for oncoming traffic to stop, but this usually happens when all I have to do is slow down. So as a result, I go all the way over to the right side of the land, so that they can't fit in the bike lane. It pisses them off to no end, and they give me dirty looks, but I don't care. If you try to pass me on the highway like a jackass, I WILL speed up. If you tail me, I WILL drive slower. If you do something that REALLY pisses me off (like cut me off), I WILL chase you and go out of my way to torture you...

The lesson to learn from all of this is that you might be an a$$hole, but I can be a bigger one.

Actually I don't honk much, I just high-beam (it's the Florida thing to do and I was there for a while). You really gotta PO me to get honked. But I have been known to chase and randomly attack people.

Mmmm...Driving fun. I don't even have a learners yet, so I don't really have any stories, but I can safely say that I agree with ming here.
