Smokers - Could there be stupider people?

OK, I'm probably going to offend half the PO membership here but this is my rant. I am a logical person and it has come to me that after long and hard thought that if smoking is not THE most disgusting, repulsive, and plain out idiotic action ever then it clearly holds a spot in the top three. As such this also draws the conclusion that people who smoke are also idiots. No, Assholes would be a better word. Idiot suggests they simply lack intelligence in some fashion. Smokers know they smoke and just don't care.

Now I can justify drinking or doing drugs faster than I can smoking (I don't do any of the three but that matters not). Drinking destroys your body and can be offensive to others (in the smell not the way it makes you act, that's your responsibility). Doing drugs destroys your body and can be offensive to others. At least both of those can make you feel good (or make you believe that you feel good) so you can say they have some type of "positive" quality about them. Smoking destroys your body, can be offensive to others, and has no medicinal, nutrional, or entertainment value at all. It also tastes and smells bad. Hell, most smokers admit they don't like the smell of cigarettes. Now why in the world would you purposely smoke if the smell offends you? You must be an asshole.

Now of course this doesn't mean that you're a bad person...or does it. Well, secondhand smoke is offensive and actually does physical, tangible damage to living beings as well as objetcs so while you're being Soccer Mom and driving all the kids around, you're doing irreparable harm to their insides. Thanks Mom! While you're cheering on little Bobby at his baseball game, your cigarette smoke is killing the person sitting next to you...or in front of you...or behind you. Thanks Dad!

You gotta ask yourself why smokers drive with the cigarette hanging out the window. You don't want it to ruin your upholstery but you'll ruin your internal organs? Asshole. Why do smokers run air purifiers in the house when they smoke? You don't want to the smell or discoloration affecting your mirrors and drapes but you'll do the same damage to your body? Assholes. Now my dad (who died last year in no small part from the fact that even to his death bed he smoked a pack a day) as well as my mon (who is not only smoking herself to an early grave but insists that "cigarettes don't cause cancer, car exhaust causes cancer") both are smokers. Does this make it any less assholic? No, being stupid is not granted an immunity due to geneology.

Smokers who read this will probably reply "F you! I'm not an asshole. You're an asshole!" but the fact that you deny and/or defend it only makes you a bigger asshole. An intelligent person would say "Why do I smoke?" instead of just denying the problem. Smoking harms others against their will. It's as bad as physical abuse and none of us condone that, do we?

Now as far as the "addiction" factor...I dispute it. Not that it isn't addictive but Hell, chocolate is addictive. Anything you like can be labelled as addictive. If your dad came home every night and slapped the shit out of your mom and said "Sorry Honey, I'm addicted to it" would that be ok? But if he comes home and smokes and effectively slaps the Hell out of everyone that enters the house, it's ok.

Drug users are addicted. Alcoholics are addicted. Smokers are not addicted. They may be weak. They may not give a damn. They are clearly assholes. But they are not addicted. You choose to smoke and you choose to not stop. That is not an addiction. That is being apathetic. A word that logically is spelled similar to pathetic.

Smokers are assholes, period. Don't be an asshole.

For the most part smokeing is dumb, but i still do it from time to time, maybe once or twice a week when i drink and such

I, like you, Razer, do none of the three. I have a friend, though, some of you will remember TheNuke_99 from voodoomoose, who has not only lost both parents(I don't know if smoking was the cause, but bear with me), but has now become a drug dealer because he just doesn't care about his life. And the thing that almost makes me cry is how smart he is! He can, and does regularly, come up with a bullshit argument on the spot that nonetheless makes perfect sense. He wrote a three page paper comparing Vietnam to GTA: Vice in half an hour. The boy is smarter than I will ever dream of being, and yet he's throwing it all away because his friends are mostly comprised of speed addicts. :nonono:





That's about how I feel about him right now. I really wish I could help.

I started smoking when I was 8, well its not really my fault tho', at that age I didn't know it was wrong and smoking is bad for health.. my aunt stay with us and she broke up with her boyfriend and started smoking (pretty stupid eh).. as a child, I always had bad dreams/nightmares and will start crying in my sleep.. my aunt will take me to her room so that I can sleep with her.. I didn't understand why people who is broken hearted smoke ciggie half way (my aunt did that).. One day I was wondering how its like to smoke, how its taste, how its like to be a grown up so I tried 1 of her ciggie that she did not finished. I cough a lil and after that I did ok.. I was so excited when I saw the smoke came out of my mouth but I didn't really like the taste.. after that day, I always finished up what my aunt left.. and guess I got addicted.. but I got caught one day, I was smoking in the store room and mom saw n smell the ciggie.. mom told dad, they asked me where I learn to smoke and I told them everything.. my parents were very angry with me but angrier with my aunt.. I got some smacks on my butt (dats really hurt) and dad make me promised not to smoke again or i'll get more smacks and grounded..

I smoke occasionally when I grow up (in college/work) and then my asthma got worst and I was advised by my doctor to quit smoking. I have quit smoking for 5 years now but I am the second hand smoke victim now cos everybody around me smoking.

*Smoking is bad for your health, believe me 'been there, done that' Second-hand smoke has at least twice the nicotine and tar as the smoke inhaled by the smoker.

my dad used to be a big smoker, and luckily, he finally saw the light, and stopped smoking ciggaretes. And because he went cold turkey from it, he got hit with lots of withdrawl. My dad still has chest problems, ever since he stopped smoking. All i have to say is that smoking is a horrible thing to do, but if you smoke, i wont try to stop you...i'll just try to advise you as to what may become of your life. Trust me, the last thing i need is for a friend to become addicted and then lose his life because smoking eventually led into worse things. And actualy, my dad never did quit smoking, cause he still smokes half a cigar when he comes home, yet he doesnt ever inhale anymore, he just puffs it, and thats it. I tell him that that is still bad for him, and he knows, but he said he needs something to calm himself down after work.

Anywho, as what Razer said about addiction. I think that one can get addicted to ciggaretes and such. You can tell it is an addiction also. It starts off being one cig a week, then a couple a week, to one a day, then half a pack a day, then a pack a day, to 3 or 4 packs a day. It becomes crazily...crazy . And then when you try to quit, the want for ciggaretes will probably overcome you and put you in a state of withdrawl.

i used to smoke but i haven't smoked in 2 years...man i feel good about it too...^_^ im no longer an asshole...i realized how stupid it was...wooo go me hahaha
