On a whim, I decided to look around the internet tonight for information on ferrets, since Tobs and I have one, Hobbes. I came across a website that had a section entitled "Ferrets in Need", which has accounts of pretty terrible things happening to these wonderful little creatures. Most of them are dated, but I read them anyway. I would like to direct you to one of the most awful things that I have ever read:

http://users.1st.net/hammock/ferrets/press.htm#origin

First off, I want to mention that this article made even me, the Merciless one, cry. Even moreso, the poem that the site creator wrote about this heinous act, called "Imagine", made me break down. (The link is at the top of the page.)

In case you didn't get the gist of this article, or chose not to read it, this piece of human garbage broke into an apartment in Brookline, MA. But instead of just stealing things like a normal, civilized human being would, he decided to kill the owner's two pet ferrets, out of nothing but malice, by beating one to death and burning the other in the oven. This waste of life only got 7 years in jail.

One thing that you must understand about me is that I have become a very devoted animal lover. I have developed such a respect for them that I will rarely kill bugs because I feel that they have just as much of a right to life as I do. Now, I'm not saying that we should sue the hell out of baseball players who hit homeruns that accidentally kill birds, and I'm not saying that we shouldn't eat meat, or anything extreme like that. What I'm arguing is a respect for something that is a living, breathing being.

Being a ferret owner myself, I can attest that the bond a person has to their pet ferret is a unique and wonderful thing. Ferrets are wonderful creatures, each with its own personality. They are full of love and happiness, and to think that someone could do something this terrible to such a wonderful little creature is further proof to how doomed we, as a people, really are.

Anyone who kills this maliciously, animal or human, simply put, has no right to life.

Thanks for listening.

~Ming

I agree whole heartedly. I have 2 Maltese dogs that are as much a part of my family as I am. And I would hate to be the person that would so much as attempt to either of them any harm.

This is kinda on topic...

I find it a little humorous that when you are watching an action movie or something to that affect, where there are a lot of people dying. And there is a dog or some other animal.

YOu ever notice that if a person dies in these movies, we kinda just brush it off.
But if the dog dies, everyone in the theater goes "awwwwwwwww" and gets pissed that they killed the dog.

I'll be honest, I do it too. Don't hurt the dog! Wiggle

I am a huge animal lover. And I can relate on the bug level with you Ming (aside from Mosquitos, Roaches and Flies). This guy is trash and I think it shouldn't be weighed as lightly and disregarded as just a pet.

I just gotta wonder if this is enjoyable to people.

I mean how does someone get off on something like that

It's just sick.

Personally, I think someone should stick them in an oven for a while and see how they like it. Getting cooked alive. Just wrong!

When I called my girlfriend last night, practically sobbing, she said not to worry, because that will never happen to my beloved Hobbes, and that I should just say a prayer for the two poor little ferrets that suffered this terrible fate, and to say a prayer for this sick individual, because he is truly sick. And you know what, I love that my girlfriend is such a wonderful person that she can say to pray for this monster, but I will not. Such a person deserves nothing from me, and I really hope that he suffers a miserable, painful death. And I hope that hell exists so that he can suffer for the rest of eternity. I know its awful of me, and that I'm making more of a big deal of this than it really probably is, but this just struck such a chord that I cannot help but be angry and continue to vent.

Again, thanks for listening.

Moral of the story is...

Ferrets are people too ... man

well, actually... people are mammals, and ferrets are mammals so in some respect, that's true.

Wiggle again

Demon angel

Something of a touchy subject for me right now because I just had to put my 16 year old yellow Labrador (named Polly, the sweetest dog in the whole wide world) to sleep yesterday. It really drove home how much we really connect ourselves to animals and pets. I could barely remember life without Polly and my sister had grown up always knowing her.

Back on topic, how a human could wantonly kill an animal is beyond me and totally forgein to myself. Just hope that should there be a judgement on this person at some point, they gain insight into what kind of sick fuck they really are

Ok first of let me say I am a big animal lover; I have 2 dogs 1 bird and a turtle. And would never ever hurt an animal, unless it was a crazy dog or something trying to kill me.

But come on, The story wasn’t that bad, yes killing them was wrong but I have heard of much worse done to human beings. No one but the victim’s family really gets upset when some one is brutally murdered, but kill an animal and people are all up in arms about it. Did you know that there are more shelters for abused animals than people? It makes me sick. Maybe I am just odd for valuing human life more than animal life.

Human life has lost its value because there is simply so damned much of it. I mean, what are we up to, eight billion now? Can any of us even comprehend how huge that number is?

I think that humanity is slowly adapting to counteract our overpopulation, which I think stems from our obsession with sex. Don't get me wrong, I don't think it's a bad thing to do, but people don't think first, and then they get pregnant, and then we have too many children, and too many people. I think this devaluation of human life that we are experiencing is one of the many ways in which nature is trying to control our growing numbers.

Anyway, back on topic, I agree with Ming, man. Anyone who would do that to anything, ferret, hamster, dog, cat, iguana even, deserves to rot for eternity.
