First and foremost Mitch... may I call you Mitch? 
Welcome to PO. I'm glad you came by our booth and liked what you saw. We do have a few of similarities to Gaia, but 1) we were actually around before they were and 2) we don't have "the flamer" community. Flaming is actually illegal on this board and it can result in banning from the community as there is no room here for people that wish to do nothing but demoralize others.

Depends on what you call "a lot" of money. A full membership to our site which includes your Custom PO character is a 1 time fee of $40. It's not a monthly or even a yearly thing... it's just one time.
Then you get to use your PO in Role playing. And you get to use our custom battle system called POBs. If you look under my character to the side, you will see wins, losses, and stats. That's all from POBs.
I know that $40 seems kind of steep, but this is a custom hand draw character that you will be using.
But... whether you sign up for full membership or not, you are more than welcome here and our community is open and friendly. And we love having new people come by and say hello.

I collect Shonen Jump, so I've got Naruto. I like it better than One Piece, actually.
And by "Friends List", I was wondering if it was similar to the "Gaia" friends list...

PO doesn't have a friends list like Gaia. We don't really need one since we are kinda close knit(sp?) anyway. ^-^ |

Very true... many POs keep in contact via AIM. I know I have an AIM name that I use pretty much stricktly for PO. "PO Shinobishi"
It's got well over 100 POs on it. |

Yeah I was told this earlier by another member that was trying to sign up.
It's only a problem in IE (Because it sux). For some reason my basic form.submit() command doesn't work in IE. Works great in Firefox though!

That first page you are seeing was a "quick fix" for the fact that people confused that registration with the forum registration. We will have a better solution implemented soon, but for now, that will have to do.
