Well, they may have captured most of all the elements of what went on in the book...but the sequence and the locations where they let it all out were what bugged me. I know that's just how things go but, its says a lot when I'm catching big stretches from a book I read over 3 years ago.

****Spoilers via the book v. movie:****
Sirius's house still has his mother in it via picture and she HATES visitors...nothing in the movie about it except a grumpy houself.

Neville's parents are still alive and are in a mental wing of the hospital, Harry sees him there...but that is totally squewed in the movie

Cho dumps Harry's butt in the middle of Hogsmeade...in the movie its an unsaid breakup b/c she "tells on the DA".

And the ministry...just didn't look right to me.

SPOILERS!

In the book, Moody shows Harry the picture, not Sirius, if I remember correctly. Harry doesn't think it's a very nice present to know about all the people who died in the other war.

It was Cho's friend Marietta who told on the DA, and she had boils or zits or something on her face spelling SNITCH.

They called it the Defense Association before it gradually turned into Dumbledore's Army.

The wizarding duels are so.... Not true to Rowling. They didn't do that kind of stuff at all. And the fight between Dumbledore and Voldemort was way off. I was expecting to see the cool stuff that Dumbledore is supposed to do, like flourishing his cloak and Disapparating, and animating the statue to have it protect Harry.

The whole Ministry scene sucked compared to the book. I was extremely disappointed. And I imagined it being white tile, not black tile; maybe I just don't remember it very well.

The tension between Snape and Harry was really dumbed down, and so was the tension between Harry and Ron and Hermione. His anger at everything was also really dumbed down.

And not even a cool flashy effect when he wants to kill Dumbledore in his office?

Dumbledore's escape from Umbridge and Fudge was also pretty lame, and didn't involve Shacklebolt the way it was supposed to.

SPOILERS END!

I was pretty disappointed in a lot of those things above, but I pay a lot of attention to detail. Oh well. It was pretty good anyway.

I was happy with the movie.

Instead of focusing on magic, they focused on characters and added magic. Or at least that's how it seemed to me. I felt like it worked pretty well.

Well, I finally saw it last night, and I really enjoyed it. Yes a lot was missed, but I read the book last year, in a rush to read all six, so I have confused a lot of things with the last 2 books, so to me, in a way I am glad I didnt remember as much, because it didnt feel ruined to me. I thought they did a pretty good job honestly.

Then again, I'm fairly open minded going into movies like that. I dont get overly picky with how it was handled. I read the books. I watch the movies. I dont usually compair, I tend to enjoy them separately.

There was bound to be lots left out of the film thats in the book, the bit about Nevilles parents being in a mental ward being left out was probably due to the whole discrimination act in this country. Remember, Warner Bros might distribute the film, but its technically British made.

I'm not usually terribly picky either, though there're always a few things that really irk me. Usually it's just something silly, though, like Lupin's mustache in the third movie and Hermione's ball gown being pink in the fourth.

And overall, the movie would've been good, but as mentioned, the Department of Mysteries scene in the book is one of my favourite parts of all the series. So it's hard to forgive them for dumbing it down so much. It wouldn't have taken much to at least have them run through the various rooms without necessarily interacting with the stuff there or something. And it wouldn't have taken much time either.

Which is kinda funny in a sense, because apparently J.K. Rowling requested that this change be made. For what reason who knows, but she must have something on her mind to ask for it.

They sort've have a nod to it. At one point he's cleaning a portrait and it 's mumbling about half-bloods and blood-traitors, but you have to be paying attention to see it.

This is the thing, most people complaints about the films are the like of things J.K Rowling has put into the Harry Potter world that are quirky and help you create that little image inside your head of the world. These things aren't needed for the films so much because they're trying to tell the story of the characters in a much smaller space of production than you can get with a book.

Harry Potter films are technically for the family (although I'd say they're more for slightly older families than most summer family films are) and family films usually come in at around 90 minutes to 2 hours in length, any longer and younger members usually get bored and the entire film is spoilt for everyone.

The films aren't a fan service, they're a part of the bigger picture, like David Beckham moving to LA Galaxy isn't really about him trying to make "soccer" *shudders* more popular on your side of the pond, its about Posh furthering her image and the Beckham Brand as the media puts it. The Harry Potter films are there to make all involved bucketloads of money (Emma Watson has around £10mil, or $20 mil for you guys), thats alot for a young girl who's only played one character (over 5 films yes, but thats a technicality).
