NPR had the person who created the blog on one of their shows earlier in the week, and he said it was supposed to be an OTT sort of satire - a way of making fun of stuff "white people" like. My problem is that it's written well enough that it's tough to figure out whether the person was serious or not.

Honestly, I don't have a problem with this list. I started reading it and I realized something - this guy most be white, and he must be poking fun at himself and the things he likes.

Reaper kind of confirmed that with the link he posted.

I can understand if there were more hateful things that were written in the blog, but I don't realy feel offended. Maybe it's because I don't really share many similarities, or because I tend to laugh at anything that is tossed my way. But really, I could kind of tell it was satire from a long ways away.

Anywho...that is all

Some of it is funny, tongue-in-cheek, but at the same time I mostly feel as doot said--making judgments about someone (ANYONE) based on skin color or ethnicity (or size, sexuality preference, gender, etc) is not cool.

And however funny some entries are, they totally lost me for the "vegan/vegetarian" entry. Not because I'm offended because I'm white and a vegetarian, but because only 15% of the world's vegetarian/vegan population is white/caucasian. Which proves to me that the writer(s) of the blog is uneducated, an idiot, a jackass or all of the above Very Happy

*edit*
Oh, and the dude they used in the picture for that particular article is Latino XD (Bob Torres, who actually runs that Vegan Freak website I posted in another topic). Which again proves their stupidity/ignorance.

Ok, have in mind I haven't read the thing!

That said, this is my opinion.

Being a minority myself, I enjoy stuff like this. I'm a huge Carlos Mencia fan, and I also love Chapelle and some others. After a couple of experiences with people here in MN, I have learned to not take anything of this kind seriously. Why? Because there's a huge percentage in the world that looks at other races with generalizations, hell, even males look at females and say, "Oh, she must be a bitch!" without even knowing her because of the way she looks or acts in certain situations because he's generalizing.

Who really cares if the guy is wrong about what he says?

I've heard a bunch of crap about myself because I'm latin, it makes me mexican. *cough*gaaz*cough* <3 Wink Or that I must KNOW how to dance, and that I have no musical talent whatsoever. And it doesn't bother me, because I know those are wrong... well, except for the dancing... I can actually shake my booty pretty decently. Wink

So, don't take the guy seriously! Just laugh! It's all about laughing baby!

If you ain't laughing, you ain't living! Wink

I will agree with Aiman on everything he wrote above except this particular thing. Aiman u can't dance and I am a witness personally to that hahahahahaha. On the other hand, stereotypes are just empowered when we get offended by them. If you think about it the word dog is not offensive at all but if I started calling someone a dog with a hidden meaning then the only power that word has is the one given to it by the person getting offended. When it comes down to it it is still just a word and it can only hurt you if you let it. Now I for one have been called "Super Spic", I used to have a superman shirt that I wore to work when I was a bar cook at a mostly white predominated bar. I didn't take offense to it, I just figured some ppl are just less educated than others and unless u have an educated opinion about a subject then your opinion becomes pointless. In another matter, Ming decided he would start a "Stuff black people like" list. Come on, is retaliation the best way to deal with ignorance? Don't you think empowering this makes us just as ignorant as the person who wrote it. We have to take life for what it is, like Aiman said, it is all about laughing an living.

I haven't started it yet. When I do I'll let everyone know.

It's not retalliation. I saw something that I was offended at at first, but then when I cooled off I realized that the idea itself is funny. So I'm taking that idea and expanding on it. I'm sharing the love, because I'm just that nice a guy. The only person I need to worry about is Officer Joe Rogan of the Joke Police for using someone else's funny idea. But that's another rant for another day...

Not at all. And in truth, the guy who wrote that is probably not all that ignorant. Yes he's making grossly generalized sterotypes, but the overall tone appears to be something that you're supposed to laugh at. Meaning most things that are written were done so for specific reasons.

Lol, well Ming I just wanted to apologize if it seemed like I personally attacked you. It was not meant as it at all. On ther other hand I do agree with you in the sense that the idea is funny lol.

Dood! You haven't seen me break it down on some reggaetton! That night I had bad shoes that kept slipping, and you know this! So, shush!

But of course, you have to make me look bad. So, I'm not surprised.

When I read that (my mom sent me the link awhile back), my first reaction was to laugh, but at the same time I felt a bit embarrassed when I read descriptions of things that I did in fact like.

But overall, I really think it was just meant to be funny, and not to offend. Stereotypes are stupid; yeah, of course. But as long as people don't take them seriously then I think it's okay... I dunno. As long as people are aware that they are JUST stereotypes, then it's fine to have a laugh, in my opinion --

Especially when the stereotype isn't mean or hurtful (like saying that because someone's a certain color, they're going to murder or rape or something).
