Oh for Christs sake! Don't these guys have enough money already? Why the hell do they need to butcher old classics?
Karate Kid isn't even that old! |

<3 I'm actually excited about the new Karate Kid movie. I loved the old one, and I think it'd be fun to see a new version of it.
But, I guess I'm severely in the minority here. |

Well, sorry Shan, but I agree with everyone else. I think remakes are ridiculous, well, except for King Kong. That was practically flawless.
I just don't understand why hollywood has to remake movies. We need more indy screenplays and relative unknown writers. Hell, ask me, I would love to write a screenplay and I have a ton of ideas!
The only remake that I would love to see would be Clash of the Titans. It was a great movie by itself. (I happen to love stop motion animation) But just imagine the great things they could do with CGI etc. It would be a wonderful new epic. But, eh, remake Karate Kid instead...O.o Geez. |

What I think is happening is all Hollywood pitch artists nowadays are all of the age where they grew up on the classic versions of these movies and must have lost all sense of imagination and want to "re-imaginate" these movies to feed it to the now generation who are patting themselves on the back for being so fashion forward as wearing jelly shoes and side ponytails.
Why don't they just go back to trying to remake Goonies so my childhood can be officially raped? |

I don't mind remakes myself. I don't believe they suck just because they're remakes. If anything, I learned not to be such a "fan" this year when Speed Racer came out. I LOVED the tv show when I was a kid and I was terrified that they were going to rape my fond memories but it turned out to be really good. So now I have a wait and see policy. |

I guess what I am upset about is that Hollywood doesn't have "original thought." Why make any effort to do anything when we can steal from the Japanese (The Ring, The Curse..etc.), or do remakes of classics that should never be touched!
Yes, a remake can be a beautiful thing, like King Kong. As well as bringing a comic to life (Sin City, 300, etc). But what happened to new ideas, original thought or inspiration? But that's my beef and my inspiration to write my own screenplay. |

I wouldn't go that far. Half of the movie was filler with hastily introduced and exited side characters of no importance whatsoever. |

There are plenty of original movies out there that aren't remakes or whatever...but, most of them just suck or are boring. The fact is that people don't really want originality so much as entertainment.
I guess I just see it that if a remake will introduce the newer generation to the Karate Kid, I am completely excited about that idea. And really, I know what it feels like to be part of the 'newer generation' and not be interested in the old stuff. I personally can't stand anything with Claymation, so a remake of those movies that have it would definitely be a good thing for me.
I don't see it as 'raping my childhood'. If it's a bad movie (IE: Indiana Jones 4) I just refuse to acknowledge its existence, but I don't pre-judge movies to be bad just because they're re-doing something I love. There's always the chance they'll surprise you and turn out fantastic (IE: Speed Racer...though, I admittedly did not love it beforehand, but still.) |

Apparently, your wish appears to be coming true. I'm not going to post a link because I'm not sure who is the most credible news source, but if you Google "Clash of the Titans remake" there is a lot of info that hints at a 2010 release.

This is getting on my nerves also. Not specifically with the Japanese, but with foreign horror in general. In 2007, a Spanish horror movie was released called "REC". Apparently, it's extremely good. So good in fact, that an American remade it already...as the 2008 film "Quarantine".
Seriously?!
And if you don't like American's stealing Japanese films, get ready for the 2009 movie "The Uninvited", which is not a remake of the 1944 American horror film of the same name, but a remake of the 2003 Korean horror film "A Tale of Two Sisters". |

Well I thought of the movie as a whole, and the only characters I was interested in were Kong and the girl, (can't remember her name). That was the only relationship that really mattered as a whole. You really feel for Kong as a tragic character even though he is cgi. |
