I've found the best thing for people are referrals. But only if those people are taken seriously.

If one of your friends is a new hire or a jerk-off then the referral is pointless. But if you have a friend that has worked at their job for a while and seems to be mildly intelligible about it then have the refer ya.

there's always data entry jobs needed, allover the place. I found a ton on Monster.com when i was looking around.
oh yeah and what do they do?

Well, not to be a smart ass, they do data entry. Depends on the company. Its not overly exciting, as you sit in front of a PC all day, just entering or processing whatever they give you.

Sometimes its helping put data into the puter to create invoices.
Sometimes its helping them maintain thier information.
Sometimes its just simple filing.
Sometimes it can move you in the direction of accounting/accounts payable.

It just really depends on the company. Some companies are lax in thier dress code, so you could be more comfortable, some require business casual...which can suck, but sometimes you just need to suck it up to get a job. I hate having to dress business casual for work, but you know what, I have a job, I do it well, and I'm pretty secure in my position, so if thats what I have to do to keep my job, then its not a huge issue.

And no business casual doesnt typically mean suits. Usually you can get away with wearing khaki's or nice comfortable slacks, nice shoes that arent sneakers or sandals, and a polo shirt. Some places are more lax or strict than others, just really depends ont he company.

But hte upside to this type of position, is that you usually dont need any schooling after high school, you just need to know your way for hte most part around a computer, and what you dont know, like excel or whatnot, you can usually learn there, or get training paid for by them for it. Each place is different so even if you have a basic grasp on how to do things, you can learn what they train you, and then go from there. And while you're doing that job, you can see if its something you would like to do or not, and then think of what you would like to do, and work to pursue it, while still having a job thats easy enough to do until you can strive towards your goal.

I can relate! My main problem was interviews. I was not so good at 'selling myself' meaning I had trouble pretending I actually cared. Learned the most important trick there is for interviews, lie to them Smile As others have said, convince them not only that you want the job, but that they want you to have the job.

if you know of a job fair and you have a resume made up, go and find a place that has similar positions to what you want. dont really ask for a position outright and just start a conversation. that is how i got the yamaha motors interview i had and they were not openly seeking a position. that just recently fell through for me but had another interview on tues so it was not a total loss. the only reason i have not worked at getting the new job was summed in one word: Finals. engineering job search....blarg
