I rarely use the word "ya'll" I tend to stop myself if I'm about to say it. It just feels wrong to use it for me.
I'm maybe 50/50 regarding buzzwords, especially when they get added to a dictionary. I'm sorry but, i don't acknowledge the word "bling" or "bling-bling" as a real word...but it got added in a couple years ago. I will use it as a cute/silly buzzword, like on my MySpace pet who's "in need of bling"...but not in an actual sentence that I'd say out loud in a coversation.
What's wrong with using proper English?
I quietly cringe when I hear "I gots to go" |

When you think about it all contractions are lazy forms of communication, as we aren’t taking the time to type or annunciate those few extra letters or sounds. I wouldn’t be able to get upset at its use for it being lazy of the speaker, and not all contractions used by everyone else. The only difference is that y’all is regional slang, and the rest are legitimate contractions, but slang has its own acceptable place in informal conversation according to the –current- rules of English grammar. |
This phenomenon almost allowed the teaching of "Ebonics" in a California school. Sad Sad Times indeed. |

There actually have been some colleges that considered offering Ebonics in other parts of the country.... and one or two might've actually DONE it
I used to use the word y'all all the time. I still do sometimes online. And it actually is in dictionaries Although it is listed as a variant of you-all.... with the hyphen.
As far as words like staycation, I stay home all the time and don't watch th enews because of other stupidity, so I don't deal with buzzwords |

Eww.... buzzwords, i couldnt agree more Ming. Annoying as hell. But yall is part of a southern dialect, every language has them, hell most languages have a half a dozen or more different dialect, and all of them stem from words being combined, whether it be because of "laziness" or efficiency. I use yall all the time, said it all my life along with a myriad of other words mostly specific to the south. In fact my old guild on wow used to make fun of me constantly for it. As far as "staycation" goes, the fact that the word even exists is pretty sad. Almost as sad as the person who came up with it. |

/agreed on creating one word from two words then using them all the time. I mean how often did someone have to say "Ben and Jennifer" before he/she was like "screw that, I'm just gonna call them Bennifer"? Probably someone on Entertainment tonight or hollywood access, or a tabloid. I don't mind making up a new word from 2 every now and then if ti sounds good, I'll do it, but I don't make it a part of my vocabulary, that's retardedly annoying.

I've fulfilled my promise of not participating in a "Staycation" this year. I've got two big trips planned! One in October and one in December.
So take THAT silly buzzword! |

I dont get what the big deal is - poor folk been staying home on vacations for years. Richie yuppies just now figured out the common folk don't get out to San Bernadinas every spring and had to invent a buzzword between scones at the bistro. |

I think this pretty much sums up the entire situation. I think we should just blame rich yuppies for pretty much everything...it's usally their fault anyway.
I also hate when someone feels the need to create an "abbreviated" name for something that doesn't really cut down on the time it takes you to say the phrase in question in the first place. (Rachel Ray, I'm looking at you...)
Seriously...how awkward is it to say "E.V.O.O." when referring to extra virgin olive oil? You cut down on 3 syllables, and end up sounding like a tool in the process. Why not just say "olive oil" and be done with it? Everyone who watches the Food Network already assumes that whenever a chef/personality uses olive oil, it's of the extra virgin variety anyway.
The other one that upsets me is the abbreviation the NYC traffic reporters use for "George Washington Bridge". They call it the "G.W.B.", which if you count, is exactly the same amount of syllables (5) as just saying the damn name. |
