Cassidy's world suddenly erupted in pain.
The noise of Brigs' energy concentration was a shriek of ever-increasing pitch. Cassidy had always had sensitive ears - another effect of her abnormal DNA - and the noise, now high into the supersonic range, felt like an ice pick driven through her skull from one ear to the other. Stuffing her hands into her ears did little to stop the blinding agony; forgetting entirely about the danger of the vibrating air duct, which seemed about to shake itself apart, Cassidy curled into the fetal position as the pain washed over her consciousness.
Through the haze Cassidy felt (more than heard) a faint rumble behind her. Turning slowly she saw a man had crawled into the duct behind her. She found herself only mildly surprised at this, and only slightly more surprised at the mildness of her reaction. After all, she reflected, I can't really expect my combat training to function properly when I've been concussed. Strange that she couldn't remember an actual blow to the head; but then again, that could just as well be another effect of the apparently forgotten concussion. Cassidy shook her head at the muddle of thoughts.
I'm dizzy, she thought, or moving...probably both...
Cassidy found it fairly hilarious that this strange man was hunkered protectively over her prostrate form. But she couldn't do anything but stare blankly at the ceiling while cleaning supplies rained down around her. And her head still hurt. A bottle of amonia glanced off the man's head.
His head hurts too, Cassidy thought, and giggled. |

"Kill me if you wish. It won't help you."
Energy, released. The volume of the shriek escalated beyon that tolerable by normal human eardrums. The door to the room was blasted outwards.
The double-doors to the Gold Ententre club were suddenly launched straight out, fast enough to embed themselves in the wall opposite the club. Tarran Brigs walked slowly out, past customers clutching bleeding ears, past shattered bottles and mingled alcohol, past the guards, still unconscious against the wall across the street, and out into the night.
Holding his hands to his ears in pain, Lander slumped against the wall beside the now nonexistent door. A low laugh built in his throat... |

Cassidy returned back to normal consciousness as though waking up from a dream: suddenly everything just snapped back into focus.
She quickly took stock of her situation. The maintenance closet had mostly collapsed in on itself; luckily the space it occupied was near the center of the building and had been constructed with greater structural reinforcement, so the walls - though cracked - were still standing. The door had collapsed inward, though, and rested precarioulsy against an off-balance shelving unit above her.
And finally, there was the strange man who had pulled her out of the air duct and was still lying over her body. He was no longer shielding her from falling objects, however, but rather was clutching his ears in obvious pain. Cassidy would have sympathetically inquired as to his condition, but at that moment a final bottle of cleaning fluid tottered off a shelf and glanced bruisingly off her shoulder.
Not trying to protect me anymore, huh buddy, Cassidy thought in annoyance. She roughly rolled the man aside, but he merely grunted and lay there wincing.
"Hey, buddy," Cassidy tried to say, but no sound came out. She tried again, feeling the vibration of her vocal chords but hearing nothing. Actually, she realized, she was hearing quite a lot - a lot of ringing in her ears.
Maybe now I really am concussed, she thought, although she'd never had a concussion before to compare. And it looks like he's in worse shape than I am. Shit. This had to get difficult... |

Jason sat on the floor covering his ears. He could feel them ringing loudly and sharp. He opened his eyes and saw Cassidy. Jason tried to talk to her, but couldnt even hear himself. "Dammit, what now ?" Jason thought to himself. He looked outside the door and saw the hallway trashed completly.
Jason sighed. "What to do now ?" He thought to himself once again. He turned his head and looked at Cassidy. She looked in not a very good shape. He stood up and grabbed Cassidy by the neck of her blouse. He took her near his face and whispered, "Read my lips... you are comming with me." Jason took out his dagger and put it near her neck. "Dont try anything stupid or you die... Come on, lets move !!"
Jason dragged her out of the Janitor's Room and they started looking around the hall. |

The man's knife came out of nowhere, taking Cassidy completely by surprise. I guess I underestimated his condition...and overestimated mine, she reflected, carefully watching his mouth as he tried to speak to her. The blade against her neck got the gist across pretty well, and she wisely decided not to try anything. Not until I'm feeling a little better, anyway... |

"Come on... This way..." Jason said to Cassidy while dragging her to the hallway. When they stepped to the middle of it, they both looked right to see the closed door was gone. Lander was covering his ears in pain. Jason ran fast and grabbed him by the neck.
"What did that man wanted with you scum ? Answer me !!!"
Lander didnt respond as he couldnt hear a word of what Jason was telling him. Jason looked back at Cassidy. "I think it is time for us to go... We cant linger here anymore. He's useless now. I dont think he'll ever recover his hearing after this. Come on... I have a bike outside, we can get out of here."
Jason started to walk out of the club slowly looking at all the injured people and destruction in the club. |

Cassidy was thoroughly confused. First this strange man had caught her in the air duct, then he'd saved her from Brigs' sonic blast, then he'd held her at knifepoint and now he had released her again and seemed (she couldn't be quite sure, although her hearing was starting to return) to be saying something about leaving the club together. As he turned back to the club proper she stared incredulously at his back. Didn't he wonder what a waitress was doing in an air duct? How could he seriously expect her to leave with him, after the schizophrenic way he'd treated her, and given that they knew absolutley nothing about each other?
Cassidy was distracted by a groaning chuckle behind her. Lander was pretty out of it after taking the brunt of Brig's attack, but it seemed he was already coming to.
She was now faced with a split-second decision. She couldn't stay here and risk Lander figuring out that she had been in the air duct, but on the other hand she couldn't enter the club floor from this direction lest somebody else see her and make the same inference. Stepping back into the wreckage of the closet, she deftly clambered back into the mangled ducts.
Easy in, easy out, I suppose, she thought, scraping her arm on a jagged edge of metal.
As she struggled to inch her way back up the vertical section of the duct that would lead back to the catwalk, Cassidy realized that she hadn't even considered taking the strange man seriously. Even if she hadn't been put off by his ambivalent savior/captor attitude, her assignment dictated that she should stay in the club and investigate how Brigs' visit fit into Lander's as-yet-impenetrable operations.
Once again hanging by her tail from the catwalk, replacing the metal grate of the air duct, Cassidy heard a bike engine revving outside the club.
On the other hand, it might be useful to know some more about this Brigs, and this character seems to know something about him...but what if he actually does start to ask questions? "Oh, I'm only an undercover agent investigating criminal activity - just the sort of thing I expect you'll be committing when you get your hands on Brigs! Speaking of which, I'd appreciate it if you let me interrogate him before you exact your bloodthirsty revenge, thanks. Then I can arrest you for murder one!" Riiiight.
Swinging down from the catwalk to the club's balcony level, Cassidy picked a nice shadowy corner to drop into and make herself look injured. |

(OOC: sorry Lews: i thought that i was in the same story line area as Shuri, but no prob, i'll be over there shortly )
BIC: Kholba grew impatient from his next meeting, but realized that he had nothing to be upset about...in fact, it gave him more free time. He turned in his chair, and faced the big monitor, and turned it on, to see how Lander was doing, along with his club, and Brigs. Upon turning on the camera, only static showed. He quickly yelled out "Camera 2", only to get the same video feed. After going up to camera 7, he noticed that the camera produced a feed, which showed a massive wreck. His eyes widened, but then quickly lowerered again, and a smile erupted on his face. He saw the camera outside, and he saw the man in teh coat dash out of the club, with his hands over his ears. He realized taht now that lander was out of the picture, he had to move on to doing things himself.
Kholba left his office, and when teh secretary asked where he was going, he only put on his black sunglasses, and put up a hand to the secretary. She silenced herself, and he proceeded to walk to the garage of the club, and proceeded to his sleek black El Camino. AFter getting in, he drove over to the club, and looked at the area, seeing the destruction that had ensued. He looked around, and saw a pool of blood on the ground. He squated down, and dabbed his index finger in the pool, feeling that it was still wet. He knew that it had to be Brigs. He stood up, swirling the blood on his fingers. He peered north of the club, and saw that a small trail of dried blood was on the ground. He followed it into an allyway. Kholba peered down teh allyway, his black eyes analyzing every aspect of it, and then he proceeded to continue down the alleyway...following the pool of blood.
(OOC: its fast, but i thnk its ok )
(OOC: sorry lews, misread your post...im sorries, just pretent that none of that ever happened guys...if thats alright with you Lews?)

Sperrit's eyes snapped open as soon as he felt the heat beating against his face. He leaped back as a patch of the wall colapsed inward, landing right where he had stood. His eyes jumped around, searching for a way out of the imploding building. He squinted through the flames and saw that the door was still unblocked. He spun around, watching the flames. After a single moment of thought he leapt backward, then to the side, then forward, to the side, backward, each time his feet touching the ground for a second before leaping again, the fire stealing more space each second. After a minute of leaping around Sperrit landed in front of the door. Suddenly he heard a loud roar and looked up. The ceiling, weakened from the heat, was finally coming in. Sperrit whirled around, looking at the door. It's hinges were melted and fused together. Sperrit grasped the handle, felt his skin begin to burn, and pulled with all this strength. For a split second the door held and Sperrit's eye seemed to flash to a deep, blood red, but just as quickly the door groaned and was torn from it's recess. Sperrit jumped forward just the roof caved in, causing the flames to roar. Sperrit lay in the alley for a few moments, cradling his hand. He could smell the burns like cooked meat. He shuddered and shakily got to his feet. The shadows would be coming soon to pick among the remains and he needed to be long gone by then. Sperrit, holding his hand to his chest, limped out of the Vermillion Maze and into the crowded streets, attracting more strange looks than before.
After an hour of suffering the strange looks of the Middlers Sperrit limped back into his part of the maze, intent on getting back to his garden. Jural could heal his hand, and in the mean time he had some plants that would act as a salve so that the wound wouldn't get any worse. The shadows still fled before him, but not as quickly. He knew they sensed his weakness... he needed to get help... fast.
Sperrit stumbled into the garden to find Jural tending the roses. The old man was quick to leave the roses and got Sperrit to sit down. He didn't ask any questions but immediately broke off some leaves from an oily looking plant and filled a bucket of water from the barrel. Sperrit was bewildered for a moment as to how the old man had known what plants to get, but then remembered that it was Jural who had suggested planting them. Sperrit grit his teeth as Jural plunged his hand into the water and then wrapped it in the leaves. After a sharp flash of pain Sperrit gave a sigh of relief. He smiled at the old man.
"Thank you, master."
"I told you not to call me that anymore, remember?"
Sperrit nodded, but stayed silent. The old man sighed and then smiled at him. "Well, come on. I can't do the job right until we get back to my place, so come on."
The old man stood up, looking down at Sperrit. Sperrit hesitated for a moment and then rose onto his own two feet. The old man nodded and they set off to the house. |
