Aim, I'm not gonna turn this into a preaching after this post but believe this. You never do it just for you. You think if you die then nobody's gonna give a shit? Let me tell you, I walked in on my father having a heart attack, dude. Just sitting on the couch and dying right there in front of me. Had I come in ten minutes later he would have been dead. I'm not saying cigarettes were 100% to blame but they were a contributing factor. The point is that when you smoke "for yourself" you take a bit from everyone that does care about you. Hell, if you don't care about yourself then fuck it, just play in traffic. But some people might care whether you give a shit or not.

I'm sorry. But, I do have to say that smoking is an addiction. It affects a neurotransmitter in your brain and attach themselves to nicotinic receptors in your brain. It causes a "high" and smokers like that "high" because it makes them feel good. You wouldn't want to quit anything that made you feel good right?

I do have to admit, that I do smoke on occasion. And when you said smoking is not an addiction, I had to say that. It gives the smokers a relaxation feeling, a calmed feeling.

I also have to say when I feel that I need a smoke and I am around people that do not smoke, I do not smoke around them because I am considerate to others who do not smoke.

Not all smokers are assholes. Just because someone smokes, does not mean they are an asshole. So, if I were to say, "I don't like video games because it keeps people from going outside and getting the exercize they need." So, because I say that, all people who like video games are assholes.

I'm just trying to make a point that just because someone smokes, doesn't mean they are an asshole. You should get to know somebody first before you go around saying they are an asshole.

I dunno if it's so much the truth.com people who are targetting the smokers but the actual cigarrette companies. Yes they want to educate, yes they want to prevent. And honestly I have to agree and commend them on the success so far of diverting NEW smokers.

My mother was a chain smoker. Me and my sister smelled like smoke whenever we put on our clothes. My mother left and it was a nice change to have fresh air for once.

Case #1 of a smoking asshole:

We have a designated smoke area at work. It's at a loading dock at the back of the building. But this does not inhibit the smokers from congregating in the parking garage, in the stairwells, in HIGHLY trafficed areas of our compound which in turn subjects non-smokers to their clouds of nasty. When you don't smoke, YES, it's offensive. I like my lungs and like to keep them significantly cancer free.

Case #2 of a smoking asshole:

Driving down the road, seeing someone hanging the cigarette out the window, watching them as they flick the lit butt out of the window onto the ground. Since when did the wrold become your ashtray? And! When did it become legal for you to assault someone with a potentially harmful weapon. Yes, I said weapon. I was driving with my window open and unbeknownst to me the person in front of me flicked thier butt out the window and the wind carried it into my car, falling in my lap. Need I remind the thing is ON FIRE? This type of disregard for others around you is what makes the "asshole".

I must say though, I don't agree that EVERYONE who smokes is an asshole. People have choices, and yes, they know it's not good for them or people around them, but some people conciously make the decisions to be courteous and mindful.

I have been around Aiman, Reaper and zero when they have smoked and each one of them have been so polite to remove themselves from the general area when doing so. THey don't light up in front of people. They each take it outside. This makes the difference. They know it's not good for them but they will find in due time when they should quit, when they can quit, if they so desire to.

So next time a person picks up a donut slap it out of their hands if you think it's going to make them obese and kill them with heart disease. We know we shouldn't do or eat things but we do because they make us feel better. Doesn't justify them being right.

Sluggergirl brought up a good point but I have to say this...again. Just because the point pertains to them, people disagree with the 'asshole" comment. However if you know something to be stupid (meaning contains no logical reason for doing it) and you purposely do it...doesn't this make you stupid? Now when the thing is something harmful to another and done totally without their permission and it's something they have no control over to prevent...doesn't that make you an asshole? It doesn't mean you're a serial killer or an infamous jewel thief but you are willfully inflicting damage upon others who have done nothing to deserve it and have no say so about it. Apply that definition to any violent act and everyone will stand against it. Apply it to smoking and suddenly it's acceptable.
If someone plays vidgames all day and denies themselves excercise they're denying THEMSELVES something. Not only does it not concern you or I but it's none of our business either.
Sorry but there is no logical argument to condone smoking. Never has been and never will be.It's simply a disgusting, selfish act. It's no more addictive than a Big Mac which also pleases the senses and relaxes the user (eater).
