I went to a y.a.o.i. panel once put on by a professor here at PSU, and I think she has it figured out--girls like y.a.o.i. because it's two "prince charming"s that act like women (in most y.a.o.i., the male love interests behave more like women than like men). There's something not very straight about that. X3

Back on topic, the only way to find out if the world is really ready for a homosexual video game (besides y.a.o.i. dating sims from Japan) is to make one and find out.  |
I'm not sure how you could make a game homosexual... I mean unless you make a game where the central plot is centered around love & sex which is somewhat uncommon in mainstream games anyway (hetero or homosexual). You could establish an underlying love affair as part of a secondary plot of some type of game genre.
I suppose if you wanted to get creative, you could set a game background in a historical location and period where homosexuality is common (Feudal Japan, Native American or obviously Greece and Rome).
All joking aside, one of the big reasons why sexuality is the central theme of the game does not sell well is because most people are not looking for that in games (at least as a primary goal). Sexuality is a big seller when it is added as a secondary component to a game (Dead or Alive, FFX-2, etc.).
Also, I think the "2 prince charmings" thing is popular is because you have two very attractive non threating guys that are acting in a very romantic "thrill in the hunt" manner. |

I have something to add to this. Why do most the women mages have next to no clothing and they're boobs poppin out? Aside from some of the healin types why can't they cover up abit and not look like a street whore? Daddy likes cleavage but when he's roamin around huntin monsters he can't be followed around by some chick wearin some half dress with her jublies ready to burst forthwith. Seriously girl! Hence, a fully cloaked mage girl in a turtleneck will die from something so simple as bitchslap, while a sexy number with nothing but nipple jewels and a thong will be able to withstand a direct hit from a tank shell. |
