This is why I love instant replay. Because you get to see how much someone hams up to get a foul out there. Germany still does it to a degree but nowhere near how they used to. Italy does it a good bit and France is close to unbearable about it.

Well congrats to Italy. My Germs at least made 3rd. Smile

Here's an interesting statistic...

It's understandable that the top 4 teams are the teams that played the extra games. (Final and 3rd place game)

Top 4 teams with most fouls committed...
1 France 120
2 Germany 118
3 Portugal 109
4 Italy 102

Top 4 teams with the most fouls suffered...
1 Italy 150
2 Germany 129
3 France 126
4 Portugal 113

Of the final 4, Italy had the least fouls and the most fouls commited against them.

It was interesting even though I find soccer kinda boring. Now if it was like Rugby style full contact, now that'd be fun.

I am sorry but I don't think it’s excusable no matter what Materazzi said. He could have shown himself to be the bigger man, but instead he showed the opposite.
I don't think he is a bad guy, I think passions were running high and his temper got the best of him. I just think it’s a shame it happened.

I'm not saying what he did was right, I'm not defending his act anyway we've already gone thru this conversation and I'm tired of the argument.. WC is over!

from what I've heard, there were a few things said. First, he said something along the lines of "the ball isnt going to a n**** like you", he also called him "the son of a terrorist whore" or "your mother is a terrorist whore"

i dont think his actions in that instance are inexcusable if this is the case. i say take a stand. people taking slams at you for your religion and ethnic background, that is inexcusable. it is unfortunate that so many people who look up to zidane as being a good role model witnessed him flattening that player. however, i say more power to him if it comes out matterazi said those things. nobody should have to take those kind of insults lying down.

Awww they make fun of him but I still adore you Zizou! He didnt actually tell what Materazzi said to him..

Zidane's agent, Alain Migliaccio, was quoted by the BBC as saying the France captain told him the Italian "said something very serious to him, but he wouldn't tell me what."

Whatever it was, it was enough to infuriate Zidane.

Ahh at least he won the Golden Ball, a good memory for his last International game on top of what happened..

I must say I'm impressed with Cannavaro and Buffon too..

Yeah it still is. Don’t get me wrong I don't think Materazzi is innocent, far from it. But we are not talking about 2 chumps in a bar going at it. We are talking about 2 players in the world cup final, with 10 minuets left in the game. He could have shown some class and been the bigger man; instead he made himself the one to look bad.

You know how I would have gotten back at him? Taking my anger and redirecting it to the game. Instead he chose to attack him, knowing he would get a red card and thus deny France their best PK'er right before the game went to PK's, which changed the scenario no doubt about it. Not the brightest move. I think loosing the world cup would have gotten backat Materazzi allot more than a head butt to the chest. But that’s just my opinion
