The plan was never to stay in the military. It was to get in, get the GI Bill, get some schooling, done, get out honorably, then finish the bachelors. As of now, I'm seriously considering getting a general discharge. I'm not sure where I'll go, I'm still making payments on my car, and I can't afford a plane ticket home. I don't know what'll happen if I do get out before my enlistment is up. I don't know how to live "In the real world" and I'm not sure if I'd make it. I thought that the military would force me to be responsible, but when it comes down to it, that's something that only I can do, and for the first time in my life I've had to do it without anyone holding my hand. Yeah, that doesn't sound good, and it sucks, but it's pretty much the truth. I guess Basic Training was to weed out those who aren't military material, but somehow I slipped through. LOL I just don't enjoy it. The poitics, the superiors talking behind closed doors while I'm left in the dark, the gossip and "assumptions" that plague it, it really outweighs the "pride" in serving my country, because it's like "This is what I'm protecting? The freedom of this?" I don't know what to do. Maybe I can just get out. I've made friends here too though. I don't know what's going to happen. All I know is that I don't want to end up like my father.

Well I really can't give advice as to what you should do, as it would be very biased on getting out of the military. But the best advice I feel I can give is meditate on your life, where it was, where it is, and where you want it to go. Figureing that out is the hard part. After you know the destination getting there is easy Wink

Buuut if you want advice on how to get discharged i could help plenty with that lol

Best of luck is all i can say mate

If you are unsure, of what's going to happen and your first gut feeling is "I need to get out" then go with your gut feeling.^_-

But reaper also has a good idea, think about what your wanting to do, and then act on it after you have your thoughts together.

He's in Canada...well Terin, as you know I may be one of the only folks that can give you more objective advice....so here it is

I feel like you do...ALOT. I am about to be an NCO and sudenly I realized, do I really want to be the guys that you discuss now? I think about going back to be a medic and such. So here is my opinion on the matter. Find other airmen and see how they feel and what their advice is. Yes I am tired of this crap too, and you are absolutely right. Most military members don't learn responsibiliy, if anything, that is part of the Air Force's trap. They make it sound like you're gonna learn this amazing responsibility and instead you learn that the Air Force will hold your hand so much that it creates intense fear of leaving because now you don't know how to live without BAH, BAS, and comps.

I would imagine you would Force Shape out. I would talk to the MPF and see if they have a Civilian Transition Service. You can talk to them, maybe gut it out for a few months to build up money and maybe take some time to search for a job back home.

Please though, give me a call or email or IM and I would be happy to help out, or at least vent with me. I promise you one thing, I will not give you an NCO or Air Force answer...remeber...I am in the same boat.

End of line

Excel
