it was called wanda and the colossus, but that was a japanese translation of the game and not the official western title. i cant wait to get this but ill have to wait till february for a PAL release, ICO is high up my favourite all time games and I'm looking forward to this more than I am the new Zelda. |

I had this reserved and while Im still very interested in the game, I decided to wait to buy until the price droped to 19.99 and pick it up then. Colossus is the kind of game I can wait for, but Im still very interested in. I played a demo I got in a magazine for like 3 hours - it really is a beautiful game. |

i doubt it'll get a price reduction, well, if anything like what happened to Ico over here happens to it you'd be lucky to even find it, nevermind for a reduced price. |

Everything goes down in price. Not to mentino Ico was a sleeper hit. As shino pointed out, this game is getting all kinds of hype, so there be plenty of copies of it floating around later. |

I don't know about in america, but theres a major influx of chav gamers in the uk that just buy your pro evo's need for speeds gta's and fifa's. so titles like this tend to go into hiding and never drop in price, my gitaroo man cost me £30, my ico cost me £30 (i dont mind that, it came in a nice presentation box with artcards) gamecube titles are still bloody expenasive because the game stores wont reduce them because they want to get as much money as they can considering they have next to no stock, a second hand copy of the Resident Evil Remake? £25 thats gone down £10 in the space of 3 years and thats for a second hand copy, I mean, come on, give poor gamers like me a chance!!! |

For the first time in a while, I actually bought a game relatively close to its release date. (Zelda games are the only exception to this; usually I wait a little bit and get a good used copy of games I'm interested in). In fact, a few weeks prior to SotC's release, I was actually kind of excited.
Talk about a game that lived up to its expectations.
First of all...this game is epic. Think about it--you're fighting these huge, gigantic colossi, and all you have at your disposal is a sword, a bow and arrow, a horse, and the knowledge that somewhere on each creature is a weak point (which has the tendancy to move on some of them).
I just brought down my first colossi. Everything from the camera angles to the music to the struggle to the frikkin GORGEOUS graphics is just seeping with the sense that everything that is going on is epic, and that you are in it and that it is real. Seriously--take every tense, epic, dramatic, action-packed scene from every action movie or anime or whatever and pour it all into a video game...and that is the video game. In fact, if you're like me at all, you're going to have to take breaks between each colossus
Also, something equally impressive about this game (but somewhat underplayed, in my opinion) is the horse. I used to be an avid horse rider, in real life. My mom still owns a ranch back in Arkansas. I love horses. Shadow of the Colossus's horse system is the best one I've seen to-date. Not to mention that you can do a lot of cool things on horse back that you can't in other games, such as stand on the horse and shoot arrows, or swing your sword. You can also jump and roll off of the horse. The horse itself moves like a horse, and behaves like a horse. It just lends itself to the realism of the game.
You might be thinking "So this is a game of boss fights, right? It can't take that long, then." Well, each colossus battle is about an hour long (at least, the first time--not only do you have to defeat the colossus, but you have to figure out how--each one has a different weakness, size, and shape) and there are 20 colossi. Not to mention that there is a bit of exploration involved in the game, such as the world map and the shrine.
All in all, I give this game a 9/10. If you love action-adventure games, the movie Princess Mononoke (I say this because for some reason, the game reminds me of it), beautiful music, and epic storylines and gameplay, then this is your cup of tea. |
